With an MMA weekend that will include events from both the UFC and Bellator, it is good to know the action begins with Maximum Fighting Championships 40. The event is going to be headlined by a pair of title bouts in both the middleweight and lightweight divisions respectively. Also, top MMA prospects like Victory Valimaki, Marcus Edwards and Kevin Croom will be stepping into the ring.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division attraction as “Shaolin†Shane Campbell (8-2-0) competes against Jerrid Burke (5-3-0). Campbell will be making his MFC debut in this fight, but he has previously fought UFC veteran Jesse Ronson. Burke has only won one of his last four fights and this will be his first time competing in well over a year. Campbell has fought far superior competition when compared to his opponent and that experience will gain him the win.
More lightweight division action will be happening next as Marcus “Bad Intentions†Edwards (6-2-0) does battle against Aaron “Gorilla†Gallant (6-5-0). Edwards is currently undefeated in MFC competition, having defeated Sean Powers at MFC 39. Gallant has won one of three fights in the MFC promotion and he had a six year gap in between appearances. Edwards is quickly rising up the ranks of MFC and he will rise a little more when he hands Gallant his third loss in MFC.
A pair of bantamweights will collide next as Jesse Brock (16-8-0) is in action against Kevin “The Hard Hitting Hillbilly†Croom (14-4-0). Brock has won two of his last three bouts, which includes a victory over Adrian Cruz by decision at Bellator 105. Croom will enter the fight riding a nine fight winning streak and he has not lost a bout in well over two years. This fight has been sadly flying under the radar when this card was announced, but it will be Croom getting the win either way.
The light heavyweight division will be featured next as Bill Widler (8-5-0) battles Victor “The Matrix†Valimaki (17-8-0). Widler will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he has previously fought WSOF veteran DJ Linderman. Valimaki has only won one of his last four fights and this fight will be his first taste of competing in over two years. Valimaki has not been very active in recent years and that is going to hurt him in this fight as Widler gets the victory.
Up next is a bout for the vacant MFC Lightweight Title as Kurt “The Hurt†Southern (13-5-0) battles Tom “Da Tank†Gallicchio (18-8-0). Southern lost the first meeting between the two by submission, that fight happened earlier this year at MFC 39. Gallicchio will enter this bout riding a two fight winning streak and he would already have been champion if he made weight the first time against Southern. Not much has changed for either fighter heading into the rematch and it will be Gallicchio both making weight and winning the title.
Headlining this card is an MFC Middleweight Title bout as champion “Smilin†Sam Alvey (21-5-0) defends against Wes “Nile†Swofford (9-4-0). Alvey will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Jason South at MFC 38. Swofford is currently undefeated in MFC competition, having defeated UFC veteran Jay Silva at MFC 36. Alvey had been waiting a long time to get that gold around his waist and he will keep it for a while longer when he defeats Swofford.
