UFC FIGHT NIGHT CINCINNATI FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/8/2014 10:04 AM

While this may not be the most star studded event in the UFC's history, UFC Fight Night Cincinnati will still be an event worth checking out. The event is going to be headlined by a key welterweight division bout as Matt Brown faces Erick Silva. There are four preliminary card fights airing on Fox Sports 1, with Ed Herman facing Rafael Natal in the featured bout.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Johnny Eduardo (26-9-0) competes against Eddie Wineland (21-9-1). Eduardo is returning to competition after a two year layoff, with his last fight being a win over Jeff Curran at UFC On Fuel TV III. Wineland has been undefeated since losing his bantamweight title bout to Renan Barao by TKO at UFC 165. Wineland has looked more focused than ever since losing the title bout and he will get past Eduardo to get another win.

Middleweight division action will be happening next as Yan Cabral (11-0-0) battles Zak Cummings (16-3-0). Cabral has already competed once under the UFC banner, having defeated David Mitchell at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Shields. Cummings is also undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Ben Alloway at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann II. The winner of this bout should be moved into more prominent divisional bouts and it will be Cummings getting that win.

Up next is a flyweight division contest as Kyoji Horiguchi (12-1-0) takes on Darrell “The Mongoose” Montague (13-3-0). Horiguchi is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Dustin Pague by TKO at UFC 166. Montague is currently winless under the UFC banner, having dropped a fight to John Dodson at UFC 166. This fight has a chance to be the show stealer on the card, but it will be Montague getting his first win in the UFC.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division bout as Ed “Short Fuse” Herman (21-10-0-1NC) faces Rafael “Sapo” Natal (17-5-1). Herman has just won one of his last two since his lone Strikeforce bout, with that lone win coming over Trevor Smith at UFC On Fox VIII. Natal has won three of his last four under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Sean Spencer at UFC On Fox VI. Natal is coming off of the biggest fight of his career in a losing effort to Tim Kennedy, but he will use that experience to defeat Herman.
