WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING X MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/20/2014 9:34 PM

Arguably the two biggest events in the short history of the World Series Of Fighting takes place in the next two weeks. It all begins with the WSOF X, which will be headlined by Jesse Taylor and David Branch battling for the vacant middleweight title. Also, the featherweight and women's strawweight gold is on the line, plus UFC veteran Tyson Griffin competes.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division affair as Nick LoBosco (7-0-0) competes against Lance “The Party” Palmer (7-1-0). LoBosco has already competed once in the WSOF, having defeated Fabio Mello by knockout at the WSOF VI. Palmer is currently winless in WSOF competition, having lost a featherweight title bout to Georgi Karakhanyan at the WSOF VII. Palmer was immediately thrust into a title shot in his WSOF debut for a reason and he will show everybody why as he defeats LoBosco.

A lightweight division bout is next as Luiz “Buscape” Firmino (17-6-0) does battle against Tyson Griffin (16-7-0). Firmino is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated UFC veteran Jacob Volkmann at the WSOF VI. Griffin is currently winless under the WSOF banner, having dropped a fight to Gesias Cavalcante at the WSOF IV. Firmino has his breakout win when he defeated Volkmann and his star will rise again when he defeats another UFC veteran in Griffin.

The WSOF Women's Strawweight Title is on the line next as champion Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (17-4-0) defends against Emi “The Kamikaze Angel” Fujino (13-7-0). Aguilar will be making the first defense of her championship, which she won by defeating Alida Gray at the WSOF VIII. Fujino will be making her WSOF debut in this fight, but she is a longtime veteran of the Jewels and DEEP promotions. Aguilar is easily the best female strawweight not in the UFC right now and she will keep the gold as she defeats Fujino.

Up next is a WSOF Featherweight Title bout as champion “Insane” Georgi Karakhanyan (23-3-1) defends the gold against Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn (14-2-1). Karakhanyan will be making the first defense of his gold, which he won by defeating Lance Palmer at the WSOF VII. Glenn is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated both Alexandre Pimental and Artur Rofi. This fight should be getting a ton more attention than it has gotten, but it will be Karakhanyan holding onto his belt in the end.

Headlining this card is the WSOF Middleweight Title Tournament Finals as David Branch (13-3-0) faces Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (27-9-0). Branch earned his position in the tournaments final round after defeating Danillo Villefort at the WSOF V. Taylor earned himself a spot in the tournament finals when he defeated Elvis Mutapcic at the WSOF VII. These are easily the two best middleweights in the WSOF right now, but it will be Taylor becoming the first middleweight champion.
