Just because there are events from both Bellator and the UFC this weekend does not mean there is no room for the Resurrection Fighting Alliance. The event is going to be headlined by a bout for the vacant RFA Heavyweight Title as Josh Copeland faces Jan Jorgensen. Also, plenty of top MMA prospects will be competing, including a few undefeated competitors as well.
Kicking off the action is a flyweight division affair as Sid Bice (2-0-0) competes against Eric “Showtime†Shelton (4-0-0). Bice will be making his RFA debut in this fight, after spending his entire career in the Spartan Combat League. Shelton will also be making his RFA debut in this fight and he is the current Cage Aggression MMA Flyweight Champion. Shelton is already good enough to hold gold in the minor MMA promotions and he will be good enough to defeat Bice in this one.
The women's bantamweight division will be featured next as Marion “The Bruiser†Reneau (3-1-0) does battle against Maureen “Baby Face†Riordon (0-0-0). Reneau will be making his RFA debut in this fight and she has only had once career fight go to a decision. Riordon will be making her professional MMA debut in this fight and she won three of five fights as an amateur. Reneau is the wrong opponent for Riordon to make her pro debut against as Reneau will dominate to spoil her pro debut.
A pair of bantamweights will collide next as Zac Chavez (2-1-0) steps into the cage against Boston “Boom Boom†Salmon (1-0-0). Chavez will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Terrion Ware at RFA 12. Salmon made his professional MMA debut at RFA 12, which is where he defeated Perceu Freza by TKO. Salmon may have the best name in all of MMA, but he will fall short as Chavez hands him his first pro MMA defeat.
Welterweight division action is happening next as Chris Heatherly (7-1-0-1NC) battles Josh Cavan (9-3-0). Heatherly made an auspicious promotional debut at RFA 13, as he fought Chidi Njokuani to a no contest after an illegal knee strike. Cavan will also be making his RFA debut in this fight and he has previously fought UFC veteran Joe Riggs. Cavan has fought far better competition when compared to Heatherly and that experience will gain him a victory.
Up next is a featherweight division attraction as Jarred “Shutout†Mercado (11-1-0) takes on Daniel “Agent Orange†Swain (11-3-0). Mercado will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Fight To Win MMA promotion. Swain will also be making his RFA debut in this fight and he does hold a victory over UFC veteran Sam Sicilia. These are two of the better featherweight prospects not in the UFC right now, but it will be Swain walking away with a victory.
Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant RFA Heavyweight Champion as Josh “Cuddly Bear†Copeland (8-0-0) faces Jan “The Janimal†Jorgensen (7-0-0-1NC). Copeland will be making his RFA debut in this fight and six of his eight career bouts have ended in the first round. Jorgensen will also be making his RFA debut in this fight and he has spent his entire career in the Showdown Fights MMA promotion. There is no doubt that the winner of this fight will end up in the UFC shortly thereafter, but it will be Copeland getting the gold around his waist.
