UFC ON FOX 12 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/25/2014 5:57 PM

Three big MMA events are taking place this weekend and the entire weekend will be capped off by the UFC On Fox 12 event. This outing on the Fox Network will be headlined by a huge welterweight division bout between Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown. Also, Anthony Johnson faces Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Dennis Bermudez gets the biggest fight of his career.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as Bobby “King” Green (22-5-0) competes against Josh “The Punk” Thomson (20-6-0-1NC). Green is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Pat Healy at UFC On Fox IX. Thomson has won just one of two fights in his second UFC run, with that lone win coming over Nate Diaz at UFC On Fox VII. Green is clearly on the rise while Thomson is on the decline, Green will get the biggest win of his career in this one.

A pair of featherweights are set to collide next as Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (13-3-0) battles Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (31-14-0). Bermudez will enter the bout riding a six fight winning streak and he has not lost a bout in almost three years. Guida has won two of three fights as a featherweight in the UFC, last defeating Tatsuya Kawajiri at UFC Fight Night: Minotauro vs. Nelson. Bermudez is quickly becoming a title contender in the division and he will get closer to a title shot when he defeats Guida.

Up next is a light heavyweight division affair as Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (17-4-0) takes on Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira (21-5-0). Johnson is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, having defeated Phil Davis by decision at UFC 172. Nogueira will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak, but he has not competed in well over a year. Johnson is seemingly a new fighter since returning to the UFC and his rise will continue as he defeats Nogueira.

Headlining this card is a welterweight division affair as Matt “The Immortal” Brown (19-11-0) faces “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (23-10-0-1NC). Brown will enter the fight riding a seven fight winning streak and he is coming off of his first main event appearance at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. Lawler has won four of five fights since returning to the UFC, with that lone loss coming to current UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks. This fight has “fight of the year” written all over it, but it will be Lawler winning and earning another opportunity at the gold.
