WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING 12 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/7/2014 9:05 AM

Following their hugely successful debut on NBC, the World Series Of Fighting returns to NBC Sports this weekend with another big event. The event will be headlined by a key lightweight division bout as Luis Palomino battles Lewis Gonzalez. There are four fights featured on the preliminary card, with UFC veteran Jorge Lopez taking part in the festivities.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division bout as Soslan Abanokov (4-1-0) competes against Bryson Gutches (2-0-0). Abanokov will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the Ring Of Combat promotion. Gutches will also be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he made his professional MMA debut in December of 2013. Abanokov has seen far better competition at this stage of both fighters careers and that experience will gain him a victory.

More featherweight action is happening next as Adam Acquaviva (1-1-0) will battle Cody Maltais (0-0-0). Acquaviva is currently winless in WSOF competition, having dropped a fight to Timur Valiev at the WSOF X. Maltais will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated as an amateur. Maltais looked very good during his time on the amateur circuit and he will look good in his pro debut as he defeats Acquaviva.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Danny “Dee 1” Davis Jr. (9-8-1) takes on Jorge “Lil' Monster” Lopez (11-4-0). Davis Jr. is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated Phil Dace by decision at the WSOF IX. Lopez is a veteran of UFC competition and he will be making his WSOF debut in this fight, but he enters the bout on a three fight winning streak. Lopez was a shining star before hitting his three fight losing skid, but he will right the ship and defeat Davis Jr. in this one.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division bout as Lucas Montoya (6-3-0) faces Jimmy Spicuzza (5-1-0). Montoya will be making his WSOF debut in this bout and he has yet to have any of his fights go to a decision. Spicuzza is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, defeating both Gil Guardado and Justin Jaynes. Spicuzza is quickly building himself into a contender in the WSOF and his status will rise when he defeats Montoya.
