CAGE WARRIORS 71 FULL CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/18/2014 1:01 PM

For the second time in less than a week, the Cage Warriors promotion will be returning with another loaded card. The event will be headlined by a middleweight title bout as Jack Hermansson defends against Deyan Topalski. Also, several top Cage Warriors stand outs like Martin Svensson and Jack Mason will be stepping into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division attraction as Amir “The Legionnaire” Gerandokov (4-3-0) competes against Wael “The Viking” Korked (1-0-0). Gerandokov will be returning to Cage Warriors after a three year absence, last competing at Cage Warriors Fight Night II in a losing effort to Merv Mulholland. Korked made his professional MMA debut back at Cage Warriors Fight Night 11, where he defeated Steve Aimable by decision. Gerandokov is the most experienced fighter that Korked has faced at this early stage of his career and that experience will get Gerandokov the win.

More featherweight division action is happening next as “Almighty” Arnold Allen (7-1-0) does battle against Saief Toumy (6-4-1). Allen will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Marcin Wrzosek at Cage Warriors 69. Toumy will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this bout and he has only won just one of his last three bouts. Allen was climbing the featherweight rankings before the upset loss, but he will right the ship to defeat Toumy.

The welterweight division will be featured next as Jarrah “Ziad” Hussein Al-Silawi (1-1-0) is in action against Ahmad Ibrahim Aly (0-0-0). Al-Silawi will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Carl Booth at Cage Warriors Fight Night X. Aly will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did win three of four as an amateur. This fight should not be a part of this card in either way, but it will be Aly making a sucessful pro debut.

A women's bantamweight division bout is next as Laura “Hot Head” Howarth (2-0-0) dukes it out with Lina Akhtar Lansberg (2-1-0). Howarth has spent her entire career in Cage Warriors, last defeating Amanda Kelly by decision at Cage Warriors 64. Lansberg is also undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, having defeated Emma Delaney at Cage Warriors 66. This is a key fight for both women at this stage of their career's, but it will be Howarth staying undefeated in the end.

Another featherweight division bout is next on the card as Liam “Bad Intentions” James (8-6-0) stands across the cage from Carlos Prada (5-3-0). James has won three of six fights in Cage Warriors and he has previously fought UFC veteran Robert Whiteford. Prada will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he does so on the strength of a two fight winning streak. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be James leaving with a much needed win.

Even more welterweight action is happening next as Jack “The Stone” Mason (28-13-0) battles Jonatan Westin (6-2-0). Mason has won four of his last five under the Cage Warriors banner, with that lone loss coming to UFC veteran Ben Alloway. Westin will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this encounter and he has only seen one careerfight go to a decision. Mason is easily one of the best welterweights in the UK right now and he will show why when he defeats Westin.

Up next is a featherweight division affair as Dave Hill (12-3-0) will be taking on Martin Svensson (13-5-0). Hill has won two of four fights under the Cage Warriors banner and he will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak. Svensson will be looking to build on the momentum from his first Cage Warriors win, which came over Robbie Olivier at Cage Warriors 66. These are two top featherweight prospects, but it will be Svensson leaving with his second Cage Warriors win.

Headlining this card is a bout for the Cage Warriors Middleweight Title as champion Jack “The Joker” Hermansson (8-2-0) defends against Deyan Topalski (11-2-0). Hermansson will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Norman Paraisy at Cage Warriors 69. Topalski will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this bout and he does so while riding a three fight winning streak. Hermansson is a worthy middleweight champion and he will successfully defend the championship when he defeats Topalski.
