RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE 17 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/20/2014 7:58 PM

In the middle of five big MMA events this weekend will be another loaded card from the Resurrection Fighting Alliance. The event will be headlined by the crowning of two new champions in both the lightweight and featherweight divisions. Also, eight more of the best MMA prospects around will be stepping into the ten sided cage to advance up the rankings.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division attraction as Cory Galloway (4-2-0) competes against Bruno Frazatto (5-1-0). Galloway is currently undefeated in RFA competition, last defeating Jeff Bates by TKO at RFA X in October 2013. Frazatto will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Bruno Tavares at Premium Fighting Championships III. Frazatto may have stumbled in his last fights, but he will recover by defeating Galloway in this one.

A pair of welterweights are colliding next as Jordon Larson (4-1-0) does battle against Donavon Winters (8-3-0). Larson will be returning to action after a two year layoff, last defeating Miguel Rios at Midwest Cage Championships 44. Winters is coming back to professional MMA after a three year absence, but he is riding a two fight winning streak. This fight should not be part of the main card in anyway possible, but it will be Larson getting the comeback win.

The middleweight division will be featured next as Francisco “Kiko” France (9-3-1) is in action against Isaac Appel (10-4-0). France will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the World Series Of Fighting promotion. Appel has won three of his last four bouts and he has yet to have any of his fights go to the judge's scorecard. France may have competed in some better promotions, but Appel has fought better competition and that experience will get him the duke.

More bantamweight division action is happening next as Luke Sanders (7-0-0) battles Darrick Minner (9-3-0). Sanders has already competed once under the RFA banner, having defeated Dan Moret by decision at RFA 13. Minner has already competed three times in 2014 and he is currently undefeated under the RFA banner. Sanders is quickly building himself into a top prospect and his rankings will continue to rise as he defeats Minner.

Up next is a bout for the vacant RFA Featherweight Title as Mark “Tricky” Dickman (9-1-0) takes on Justin “The American Kid” Lawrence (5-2-0). Dickman will enter the bout riding a four fight winning streak, which includes a win over Raoni Barcelos at RFA 14. Lawrence has been undefeated since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Daniel Pineda at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Lawrence may be the higher profile athlete, but Dickman will walk away with the gold as he gets the biggest win of his career.

Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant RFA Lightweight Title as Dakota Cochrane (17-5-0) faces Christos “The Spartan” Giagos (9-2-0). Cochrane has been competing in the RFA since the company started almost three years ago, winning four of five in the promotion. Giagos has won five of his last six fights, which includes a win over UFC veteran Chris Tickle at Flawless FC III. Cochrane is the longest tenured fighter in RFA and he will finally be the king of the RFA when he defeats Giagos to win the gold.
