UFC FIGHT NIGHT 48 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/21/2014 10:16 PM

Starting off a Saturday featuring two separate events from the UFC will be a top notch UFC Fight Night 48 card. The event will be headlined by a key middleweight division fight as Michael Bisping faces Cung Le. Also, Dong Hyun Kim faces Tyron Woodley and the long delayed TUF China I Featherweight Finals takes place.

Kicking off the action is the TUF China I Featherweight Finals as Guangyou “Smasher” Ning (3-2-1) competes against Jianping Yang (6-3-1). Ning will be returning to action after a year plus layoff, but he has fought UFC veteran Kyung Ho Kang. Yang is also returning to action after a year plus layoff, but he enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak. This fight is a long time in the making, but it will be Yang walking away as the TUF China I Featherweight winner.

A pair of welterweights will clash next as Lipeng “The Warrior” Zhang (7-7-1) battles Brendan “Badger” O'Reilly (5-0-0-1NC). Zhang is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, having defeated Wang Sai at UFC Fight Night: Kim vs. Hathway. O'Reilly will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Fury MMA promotion. Zhang was the welterweight winner of TUF China I and he will build on that momentum to defeat O'Reilly is his UFC debut.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim (19-2-1-1NC) takes on Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley (13-3-0). Kim will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, most notably defeating John Hathaway at UFC Fight Night: Kim vs. Hathaway. Woodley has won two of his last three under the UFC umbrella, but his last fight was a loss to Rory MacDonald at UFC 174. This fight is worthy of a position on a much more prominent UFC event, but it will be Kim winning his fifth straight in the UFC.

Headlining this card is a middleweight division bout as Michael “The Count” Bisping (24-6-0) faces Cung Le (9-2-0). Bisping has rotated wins and losses in his last six UFC bouts, with his last fight being a loss to Tim Kennedy at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale. Le will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Rich Franklin at UFC On Fuel TV VI. This is a bout to see which competitor can remain a viable contender in the UFC and that person will Bisping.
