UFC FIGHT NIGHT 49 FOX SPORTS 2 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/22/2014 11:33 AM

Finishing off a busy weekend of MMA action will be the UFC Fight Night 49 card from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event is going to be headlined by a huge lightweight division bout as Ben Henderson battles Rafael Dos Anjos. There are four fights on the Fox Sports 2 portion of the preliminary card, with the return of Ben Saunders to the UFC being part of the festivities.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division attraction as Chris “Stump” Heatherly (8-1-0-1NC) competes against Ben “Killa B” Saunders (16-6-2). Heatherly will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he does hold a win over TUF alumni Dakota Cochrane. Saunders will be returning to the UFC after a four year absence, primarily competing in Bellator MMA during that time. Saunders has been angling for a UFC return for a long time now and he will not disappoint when he defeats Heatherly.

A pair of bantamweights will collide next as Matt “The Crowbar” Hobar (8-2-0) battles Aaron “The Model” Phillips (5-1-0). Hobar is currently winless under the UFC banner, having dropped a fight to Pedro Munhoz at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil III Finale. Phillips is also winless under the UFC banner, with his loss coming to Sam Sicilia by decision at UFC 173. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Hobar getting the much needed win.

Up next is a lightweight division affair as Beneil Dariush (7-1-0) is in action against Tony Martin (8-1-0). Dariush will be looking to rebound from his first UFC loss, which came to Ramsey Nijem at UFC Fight Night: Minotauro vs. Nelson. Martin is currently winless under the UFC umbrella, having dropped a fight to Rashid Magomedov at UFC 169. This is another must win situation for two competitors on the card, but it will be Dariush pulling this one out.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division bout as Alex “The Dominican Nightmare” Garcia (12-1-0) faces Neil Magny (11-3-0). Garcia is currently undefeated in UFC competition, last defeating Sean Spencer by decision at UFC 171. Magny will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating Tim Means at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. This is a battle of two of the better prospects in the welterweight division right now, but it will be Magny getting his fourth straight win.
