UFC FIGHT NIGHT 51 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/11/2014 10:01 PM

There are six potentially huge MMA events this weekend and of course we will be getting an event from the world largest MMA promotion. UFC Fight Night 51 comes to us this Saturday Night from Brazil with a rematch between Antonio Silva and Andrei Arlovski in the main event. There are five fights on the preliminary card, with fan favorite Godofredo Pepey in the featured spot.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as “Brutal” Johnny Bedford (19-11-1-1NC) competes against Rani Yahya (19-8-0-1NC). Bedford initially won the first bout between the two at UFC Fight Night: Minotauro vs. Nelson, but the bout was ruled a no contest after an incidental clash of heads. Yahya has not competed since the first meeting with Bedford and he has not earned a victory since August of 2013. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Yahya using the ground game to get that win.

A pair of welterweights will collide next as Sean “Black Magic” Spencer (11-3-0) does battle against Paulo Thiago (15-7-0). Spencer has won two of four fights during his UFC run, with a notable win coming over Yuri Villefort at UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Bader. Thiago has only won just two of his last eight under the UFC banner and he has not won a bout in well over a year. Thiago has no business being on the UFC roster right now and Spencer will prove that point as he gets the win.

Lightweight competitors will enter the octagon next as Leandro “Buscape” Silva (16-1-1) battles Francisco “Massaranduba” Trinaldo (14-4-0). Silva is returning to the UFC after a one year absence, with his lone UFC fight being a loss to Ildemar Alcantara at UFC On Fuel TV X. Trinaldo has only won just one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Jesse Ronson at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi. Both fighters after better than their UFC run's suggest, but it will be Silva walking away with his first UFC win.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Igor Araujo (25-6-0-1NC) takes on George Sullivan (15-3-0-1NC). Araujo is currently undefeated in UFC competition, last defeating Danny Mitchell at UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Manuwa. Sullivan is also undefeated thus far in UFC competition, with his win coming over Mike Rhodes at UFC On Fox X. These are two very good prospects for UFC fans to keep an eye on, but it will be Araujo staying undefeated in UFC competition in the end.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division bout as Dashon “Fly Boy” Johnson (9-1-0) faces Godofredo Pepey (10-3-0). Johnson is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Jake Matthews at UFC Fight Night: Te Huna vs. Marquardt. Pepey has only won just one of his last three in UFC competition, with that lone win coming over Noad Lahat at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson II. Pepey is one of the more exciting fighters to come out of Brazil and he will show why when he defeats Johnson.
