BELLATOR 126 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/22/2014 9:27 PM

Since the Scott Coker era of Bellator MMA started a few weeks backs, Bellator MMA has been delivering some great MMA on Spike TV. Bellator 126 will be no different, as middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko defends against Brandon Halsey in the main event. Also, Marcin Held faces Patricky Freire in a season ten tournament final and top prospect Bubba Jenkins competes.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Mike “The Marine” Richman (16-5-0) competes against Ed “Wild” West (18-8-0). Richman has only won just one of his last four in Bellator MMA and this will be his bantamweight division debut. West has also won just one of his last four fights and he is a former Bellator MMA Bantamweight Champion. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be the better striker in Richman getting the win.

A pair of featherweights will collide next as Bubba “The Highlight Kid” Jenkins (7-1-0) battles Thiago “Minu” Meller (19-5-0). Jenkins has won four of five fights in Bellator MMA, most notably defeating Poppies Martinez at Bellator 122. Meller will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight, but he has previously fought current UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. Jenkins is a fighter that has a very bright future in Bellator MMA and he will shine in his first main card bout when he defeats Meller.

Up next is a season ten lightweight tournament final as Marcin Held (19-3-0) takes on Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-5-0). Held found himself in the tournament finals after defeating both Rodrigo Carvalho and Derek Anderson. Freire earned himself a spot in the tournament finals with a pair of wins over both David Rickels and Derek Campos. Held has already won a Bellator MMA tournament and he will do so once again as he defeats Freire to win the final Bellator MMA tournament ever.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Middleweight Title fight as champion Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko (50-8-0) defends against Brandon “Bull” Halsey (7-0-0). Shlemenko will be making the fourth defense of his championship, but he is coming off of a loss to Tito Ortiz at light heavyweight. Halsey earned a shot at the gold by winning the season ten middleweight tournament, defeating Brett Cooper in the finals. Halsey may have earned the title shot, but Shlemenko is light years ahead of him in terms of talent and that talent will keep the gold around his waist.
