TITAN FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 30 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/24/2014 9:46 PM

It is hard for MMA promotions to get noticed when they are running alongside three other MMA events in the same weekend. The Titan Fighting Championships are stacking the deck in their favor with Titan FC 30, which features Jason Brilz battling Vinny Magalhaes for the vacant light heavyweight title in the main event. Also, the second featherweight title tournament semi-final bout is taking place, while UFC veterans Walel Watson and Pedro Nobre are in action.

Kicking off the action is a flyweight division attraction as “Quick” Nick Honstein (16-7-0) competes against Pedro “The Rock” Nobre (16-1-2-1NC). Honstein is taking the bout with just two days’ notice, but he does enter the bout on a four fight winning streak. Nobre is a UFC veteran who is undefeated thus far in Titan FC competition, having defeated Dan O’Connor at Titan FC 28. Honstein may have had a better chance if he had more notice, but the lack of prep time will hurt him as Nobre leaves with a win.

A pair of welterweights will collide next as Richie “The Boogieman” Martinez (3-0-0) is in action against Leville Simpson (4-1-0). Martinez will be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and he has yet to see any of his fights go past the first minute of the first round. Simpson will be making his Titan FC debut on a two fight winning streak, but he has not competed in almost a full year. This is a huge opportunity for both of these fighters to be competing on national TV, but it will be Martinez staying undefeated in the end.

The featherweight title tournament semi-final bout is next as Gleristone “Toninho Furia” Santos (26-4-0) battles Robert “The Beast” Washington (18-8-0-1NC). Santos is currently undefeated in Titan FC competition, having defeated UFC veteran Alvin Robinson at Titan FC 28. Washington is also undefeated under the Titan FC banner, having defeated Blaine Thomas by TKO at Titan FC 29. Santos is easily one of the best fighters not in the UFC right now and he will show why when he advances to the tournament finals.

Up next is a bantamweight division affair as Anthony “Shark Bait” Gutierrez (5-0-0) takes on Walel “The Gazelle” Watson (12-7-0). Gutierrez has spent his entire career in the Titan Fighting Championships and none of his fights have gone past the opening round. Watson is a UFC veteran who is undefeated in Titan FC competition, having defeated William Joplin at Titan FC 28. Watson has not been his sharpest since getting his UFC walking papers and Gutierrez will defeat him to get the biggest win of his career.

Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant Titan FC Light Heavyweight Title as Vinny “Pezao” Magalhaes (11-7-0-1NC) faces Jason “The Hitman” Brilz (22-5-1). Magalhaes has been undefeated since his UFC release, having defeated Jorge Gonzalez at Xtreme Knockout 24. Brilz has been undefeated since his UFC release, which includes a win over Raphael Davis by decision at Titan FC 28. Magalhaes has not lived up to his potential while competing in MMA and Brilz will finally get the gold around his waist as he walks away with the gold.
