There are two events from the UFC this coming Saturday and it all kicks off with UFC Fight Night 53 from Stockholm, Sweden. The event is going to be headlined by a key welterweight division bout as Gunnar Nelson faces Rick Story. There are a total of seven fights on the preliminary card, which includes the return of Dennis Siver after a failed drug test earlier this year.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as Ernest “EJ†Chavez (7-1-0) competes against Zubaira "Warrior" Tukhugov (16-3-0). Chavez will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Elias Silverio at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil III Finale. Tukhugov is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, having defeated Douglas De Andrade at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi. Tukhugov is one of the better prospects to come along in a while now and he will show why as he hands Chavez a defeat.
More lightweight division action is happening next as Marcin “Bomba†Bandel (13-2-0) does battle against Mairbek “Beckan†Taisumov (21-5-0). Bandel will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he does so while on the strength of a twelve fight winning streak. Taisumov will be looking to rebound from his first UFC defeat, which came to Michel Parzeres at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson II. Bandel is on an incredible roll as he heads into his UFC debut and that roll will continue as he defeats Taisumov in this one.
A pair of middleweights will collide next as Krzysztof Jotko (14-1-0) is in action against Tor “The Hammer†Troeng (16-6-1). Jotko will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Magnus Cedenblad at UFC Fight Night: Munoz vs. Mousasi. Troeng will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in eighteen months. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Jotko getting that much needed win.
The welterweight division will be featured next as Cathal “The Punisher†Pendred (14-2-1) dukes it out with Gasan “Cobra†Umalatov (15-3-1). Pendred is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Mike King at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao. Umalatov will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over Paulo Thiago at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil III Finale. Umalatov is coming off of the biggest win of his MMA career, but he will stumble in his next fight as Pendred pulls out the win.
Featherweight division action is next as Charles Rosa (9-0-0) will be standing across the cage from Dennis Siver (21-9-0-1NC). Rosa will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Classic Sports & Entertainment MMA promotion. Siver is returning to action after a failed drug test and he has not won a fight in just about two full years. Siver was once considered one of the better featherweights in the UFC a while ago and he will return to form when he defeats Rosa.
Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Nicholas “Nico†Musoke (12-3-0-1NC) takes on Alexander “Bad Boy†Yakovlev (21-5-1). Musoke has won two of three fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Alessio Sakara at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz. Yakovlev is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Damien Maia at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil III Finale. Musoke had a good run going in the UFC before losing to Kelvin Gastelum, but he will get back on track to defeat Yakovlev.
Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division bout as Scott Askham (12-0-0) faces Magnus “Jycken†Cedenblad (12-4-0). Askham will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he recently defeated top UK MMA prospect Max Nunes. Cedenblad will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, most notably defeating Jared Hamman at UFC 164. This fight was worthy of a spot on the main card, but it will be Cedenblad ending the undefeated streak of Askham either way.
