UFC FIGHT NIGHT 54 FOX SPORTS 2 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/3/2014 12:35 AM

It seems like the UFC is putting on events every single weekend and this weekend is no exception as the UFC is holding two events this Saturday. The event will be headlined by a key welterweight division attraction as Rory MacDonald battles Tarec Saffiedine. There are four fights on the Fox Sports 2 portion of the preliminary card, with a lightweight slugfest in the featured spot.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division affair as Patrick “The Hooligan” Holohan (10-0-1) competes against Chris Kelades (7-1-0). Holohan has already competed once under the UFC banner, having defeated Josh Sampo at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao. Kelades will be making his UFC debut in this event and he is a veteran of the rival Bellator MMA promotion. Kelades is a late replacement in this fight and that will hurt him as Holohan gets his second UFC win.

A pair of lightweights will collide next as Paul “The Irish Dragon” Felder (8-0-0) battles Jason Saggo (10-1-0). Felder will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Cage Fury Fighting Championships promotion. Saggo is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Josh Shockley by first round TKO at UFC 174. These are two good prospects that the UFC has under contract here, but it will be Saggo picking up his second UFC victory.

Up next is a lightweight division attraction as Olivier Aubin-Mercier (4-1-0) takes on Jake “The Librarian” Lindsey (9-1-0). Aubin-Mercier is currently winless under the UFC banner, having dropped a fight to Chad Laprise at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale. Lindsey is also winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Jon Tuck at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Khabilov. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Lindsey getting the much needed win.

Headlining this portion of the card is a light division bout as “The Detroit Superstar” Daron Cruickshank (15-5-0) faces Anthony “The Assassin” Njokuani (16-8-0-1NC). Cruickshank has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Erik Koch at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. Njokuani has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a loss to Vinc Pichel at UFC 173. This fight should be nothing short of a slugfest, but it will be the more accomplished striker in Cruickshank getting the win.
