BELLATOR 128 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/6/2014 1:37 PM

Kicking off an MMA weekend that will be featuring three events in total will be a loaded Bellator 128 card. The event will be headlined by a title unification bout as Bellator Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas faces Bellator Interim Bantamweight Champion Joe Warren. There are seven fights on the preliminary card, with a lot of top MMA prospects stepping into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight division attraction as Jason Butcher (7-1-0) competes against Andreas Michailidis (5-1-0). Butcher competed in the season nine middleweight tournament, losing to Mikkel Parlo in the semi-finals. Michailidis has only competed once in the last three years, which was a win over Daniel Hernandez at a King Of The Cage event. The lack of activity is going to hurt Michailidis and the more active Butcher will rebound from his tournament loss to get the win.

The featherweight division will be featured next as Stephen “The Fear” Banaszak (3-3-0) is in action against Emmanuel “El Matador” Sanchez (8-1-0). Banaszak will be looking to rebound from his first Bellator MMA defeat, which came to Treston Thomison at Bellator 121. Sanchez will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he has already competed three times this year. Sanchez has had an incredible run thus far in 2014 and his incredible run will continue as he defeats Banaszak.

A pair of bantamweights will collide next as Jason “Wild Thing” Sampson (10-1-0) does battle against Danny Sykora (7-4-0). Sampson is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA competition, but he has not competed in nearly two years. Sykora will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in nearly three years. These are two competitors who need victories for different reasons, but it will be Sampson walking away with the win.

More featherweight action is happening next as John Martinez (0-0-0) dukes it out with Brandon Seyler (2-1-1). Martinez will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, having won two of four fights as an amateur. Seyler will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Ryan Hollis at Xtreme Knockout 20. Martinez was not that impressive as an amateur and he will not be starting off his pro career with a win as Seyler returns to the win column in this one.

Another featherweight bout is next as Treston Thomison (8-2-0) is battling Cody “The Crow” Walker (3-2-0). Thomison will be looking to build on the momentum of his first Bellator MMA win, which came over Stephen Banaszak at Bellator 121. Walker is currently winless under the Bellator MMA banner, having dropped a fight to Steve Garcia at Bellator 121. Walker has seemingly been stumbling in the last year and change, Thomison will take advantage of that to notch another win.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Cortez “The Crazy Cowboy” Coleman (10-6-0) takes on “Furious” Will Florentino (5-3-0). Coleman has only won just one of his last four fights, with that lone win coming over Daniel Miller at Bellator 111. Florentino has only fought once in the last four years, which was a win over Guillermo Martinez at Bellator 121. These are two competitors who are in a must win situation here and it will be the more active Coleman getting the victory.

Headlining this card is a lightweight division bout as Johnny “JC” Cottrell (13-3-0) faces Jonathan Gary (10-4-2). Cottrell will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight, but he holds a win over Bellator MMA veteran Jerrod Card. Gary has won three of his last five bouts, but he has not stepped into the cage in just about one full year. Cottrell is one of the better prospects to come to Bellator MMA in a while now and he will show why as he defeats Gary.
