TITAN FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 31 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/28/2014 9:05 AM

Since debuting on CBS Sports earlier this year, the Titan Fighting Championships have put on some of the better MMA shows around. Titan Fighting Championships 31 will be no different, as Mike Ricci faces Yoshiyuki Yoshida for the vacant lightweight title in the main event. Also, Miguel Torres comes to Titan FC to face Desmond Green and Tyler Stinson will be making his promotional debut.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division bout as Jose Figueroa (13-6-0) competes against Tyler “The Evolution” Stinson (27-10-0). Figueroa enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, he has also fought UFC veterans Edson Barboza and Jonathan Brookins. Stinson will be making his promotional debut in this fight, he is also a veteran of Bellator MMA and the World Series Of Fighting. Stinson is one of the better fighters not to make it to the UFC, but he will make the best of his Titan FC debut by defeating Figueroa.

More welterweight action is next as Hayder “Hulk” Hassan (5-1-0) does battle against Felipe “Balboa” Portela (8-1-0). Hassan will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he has only competed once in the last four years. Portela has also competed once in the last three years, with his fight being a win over Alex Rojas at a Fight Time Promotions event. This is a huge opportunity for two inactive fighters to get a win on the big stage and it will be Portela getting that much needed win.

A pair of heavyweights will collide next as Ken Hasegawa (8-0-1) will be battling Matt Thompson (19-9-0). Hasegawa has spent his entire career until this point in the DEEP promotion and this fight will mark his North American MMA debut. Thompson will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a win over UFC veteran Jake Rosholt. This is a quality heavyweight division attraction and it will be Hasegawa staying undefeated when it’s all over.

Up next is a bantamweight division attraction as Desmond “The Predator” Green (12-3-0) takes on Miguel Torres (43-7-0). Green will be making his Titan FC debut in this bout after winning three of five fights during his time in Bellator MMA. Torres has been undefeated since disastrous runs in the UFC and WSOF, this fight will mark his fourth contest of 2014. Torres was once considered the best bantamweight in all of MMA and he will take a step closer back to that status when he defeats Green.

Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant Titan FC Lightweight Title as Mike “The Martian” Ricci (10-4-0) faces Yoshiyuki “Zenko” Yoshida (17-6-0). Ricci is a UFC veteran who is undefeated in Titan FC, last defeating George Sotiropoulos at Titan FC 29. Yoshida is a fellow UFC veteran who will enter this bout on a six fight winning streak, which includes a win over Phil Baroni. Ricci has seen a new live come to his career since coming to Titan FC and he will capture the promotions biggest prize when he walks away with the gold.
