CAGE WARRIORS 73 MAIN CARD #2 PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/29/2014 10:06 PM

Cage Warriors is easily the best MMA promotion in the UK right now and events like Cage Warriors 73 prove that point. The second main card will be headlined by the rubber match between CWFC lightweight Champion Stevie Ray and Curt Warburton. Also, Bellator MMA veteran Jim Wallhead competes and some of Cage Warriors best step into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division bout as Stephen Martin (3-2-0) competes against Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett (6-1-0). Martin has only won just one of his last three heading into his Cage Warriors debut and he is a veteran of the All Or Nothing MMA promotion. Pimblett has won three of four under the Cage Warriors banner, most notably defeating Martin Sheridan at Cage Warriors 65. Pimblett is one of the better prospects in Cage Warriors right now and he will get another promotional win when he defeats Martin.

A pair of flyweights will be colliding next as Brett “Lil’ Ninja” Caswell (5-1-0) does battle against Marcin “BJ” Lasota (8-0-0). Caswell is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, last defeating Spencer Hewitt at Cage Warriors 69. Lasota has already competed once in Cage Warriors, having defeated Paul Marin at Cage Warriors Fight Night X. This fight could determine the next flyweight title challenger and it will be the undefeated Lasota getting that shot with the win.

The welterweight division will be featured next as Matt Inman (13-6-0) is in action against Lewis “The Foot” Long (8-3-0). Inman has won four of six fights in Cage Warriors, but he is coming off of a loss to Mauro Chimento Jr. at Cage Warriors 68. Long has rotated wins and losses during his Cage Warriors run, with his last fight being a win over Steven Dinsdale at Cage Warriors 72. These are two fighters who are becoming contenders in the division, but it will be Inman getting the win to move up the rankings.

Another flyweight division bout is next as Shaj “Superman” Haque (5-1-0) battles Damien “The Rage” Rooney (10-3-1). Haque has spent the majority of his career in the Cage Warriors promotion, winning four of five fights there. Rooney is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, having defeated Bryan Creighton at Cage Warriors 65. This is another potentially huge fight in the division and it will be Haque getting another big win as he defeats Rooney.

Up next is a welterweight division bout as Juan Manuel “Juanma” Suarez (15-6-0) takes on “Judo” Jim Wallhead (25-9-0). Juarez will be returning to Cage Warriors riding a two fight winning streak and this will mark his fourth fight of 2014. Wallhead had an unsuccessful return to Cage Warriors at Cage Warriors 68, dropping a fight to Danny Roberts. Wallhead did not look very good in his promotional return, but he will be righting the ship as he defeats Juarez.

Headlining this main card is a CWFC Lightweight Title bout as champion Steven “Braveheart” Ray (15-5-0) defends against Curt “The War” Warburton (13-5-0). Ray win the second meeting of the two, successfully defending the gold against Warburton at Cage Warriors 69. Warburton won the initial bout between the two, which came over a year ago via decision at BAMMA 12. This is easily the biggest fight Cage Warriors has put on in a longtime and it will be ray leaving with the gold in the end.
