UFC FIGHT NIGHT 55 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 11/6/2014 9:25 AM

There is a total of five MMA events taking place this coming weekend and there will be another double header provided by the UFC. The first of those two events will be UFC Fight Night 55 as Luke Rockhold faces Michael Bisping in the main event. There will be a total of seven fights on the preliminary card, with longtime MMA veteran Anthony Perosh taking part in the festivities.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Marcus “The Bama Beast” Brimage (6-3-0) competes against Jumabieke “The Wild Wolf” Tuerxon (14-2-0). Brimage will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in well over two years. Tuerxon is currently winless in UFC competition and this fight will mark his third UFC contest in this year. These are two fighters who are in a desperate need of a victory and it will be Tuerxon walking away with that much needed win.

The middleweight division will be featured next as Daniel Kelly (7-0-0) does battle against Luke Zachrich (14-3-0). Kelly will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Australian Fighting Championships. Zachrich will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over Guillherme Vasconcelos at UFC 175. There is a considerable amount of hype behind Kelly in his UFC debut and he will live up to that hype as he defeats Zachrich.

A welterweight division attraction is next as Chris “The Menace” Clements (11-5-0-1NC) is in action against Vik “The Spartan” Grujic (7-3-0). Clements has only won just one of three bouts under the UFC umbrella and he has not won a bout in two years. Grujic is going to be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC victory, which came over Chris Indich at UFC Fight Night: Te Huna vs. Marquardt. These are another two fighters who are in need of a win and it will be Grujic walking away with his second UFC win.

Flyweight division action is happening next as Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka (7-1-0) clashes with Richie “Vas” Vaculik (10-2-0). Smolka will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Chris Cariaso at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. Vaculik has won one of two fights under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Roldan Sangcha-an at UFC Fight Night: Te Huna vs. Marquardt. Vaculik is a late replacement fighter in this contest and that is going to hurt him as Smolka picks up another UFC victory.

More middleweight action is next as “Smilin’” Sam Alvey (23-6-0-1NC) battles Dylan “The Villain” Andrews (17-5-0-1NC). Alvey is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Tom Watson at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. St. Preux. Andrews has won two of three fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Papy Abedi at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann II. Andrews is one of the better middleweight prospects in the UFC right now and his status will rise as he defeats Alvey.

Up next is a light heavyweight division contest as Guto Inocente (6-3-0) takes on Anthony “The Hippo” Perosh (14-8-0). Inocente is currently winless in UFC competition and he has only fought one time in the last two-plus years. Perosh has only won just one of his last three in the UFC, with that lone win coming over Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 163. Perosh has far exceeded anyone’s expectations since coming to the UFC and he will get another win as he defeats the inconsistent Inocente.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division bout as Jake “The Celtic Kid” Matthews (7-0-0) faces Vagner “Ceara” Rocha (11-3-0). Matthews has already competed once in the UFC, having defeated Dashon Johnson at UFC Fight Night: Te Huna vs. Marquardt. Rocha will be returning to the UFC after a two year absence, having won four straight fights in that span of time. Matthews is a good young prospect, but Rocha is on a whole different level and that will be shown as Rocha makes a successful UFC return.
