UFC FIGHT NIGHT 56 FOX SPORTS 2 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 11/7/2014 8:57 AM

The UFC is starting to run more shows outside of the USA than they ever have before, with the two events this weekend happening in Australia and Brazil. The second of those events, UFC Fight Night 56 in Brazil, features Mauricio Rua and Ovince St. Preux in the main event. There are five fights on the Fox Sports 2 portion of the preliminary card, with longtime UFC veteran Charlie Brenneman in action.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Thomas “Thominhas” Almeida (16-0-0) competes against Tim “The Psycho” Gorman (8-3-0). Almeida will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is the current Legacy FC Bantamweight Champion. Gorman is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Mitch Gagnon at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale. Almeida should have been in the UFC a long time ago and he is going to show everybody why when he defeats Gorman in his promotional debut.

A lightweight division attraction is next as Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman (19-7-0) is in action against Leandro “Buscape” Silva (16-2-1). Brenneman is currently winless in his second UFC run, last suffering a defeat to Danny Castillo at UFC 172. Silva is also winless in his second UFC run, as he dropped a fight to Francisco Trinaldo by decision at UFC Fight Night: Bigfoot vs. Arlovski II. Brenneman has not looked that good since coming back to the UFC and his woes will continue as Silva gets the duke over him.

Welterweight division action is happening next as Dhiego Lima (9-2-0) battles Jorge “Blade” Oliveira (7-0-0). Lima is currently winless in UFC competition and he is the brother of current Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Douglas Lima. Oliveira will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he has yet to see any of his fights go past the opening round. Oliveira took this fight on less than a week’s notice and that will hurt him in this one as Lima gets his first UFC win.

Up next is a middleweight division affair as Caio “Hellboy” Magalhaes (8-1-0) takes on Trevor “Hot Sauce” Smith (12-5-0). Magalhaes has won three straight fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Karlos Vemola at UFC On Fuel TV X. Smith has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a win over Tor Troeng at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao. Magalhaes is quickly becoming a contender in the middleweight division and his ranking will rise when he defeats Smith.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division bout as Diego “Pitbull” Rivas (5-0-0) faces Rodolfo “Fito” Rubio (12-6-0). Rivas will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he has only seen one of his fights go to the judge’s scorecards. Rubio will also be making his UFC debut in this fight and he has won three of his last four fights heading into this debut. This is a huge spot for both fighters to be making their UFC debut’s at, but it will be the more experienced Rubio getting the win.
