RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE 22 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 1/8/2015 12:07 PM

Of all the regional MMA promotions in North America right now, the Resurrection Fighting Alliance is easily the best of them all at the moment. The first event for the RFA in 2015 is quite the doozy as UFC veteran Gilbert Smith faces Chidi Njokuani for the vacant welterweight title. Also, another UFC veteran in Alvin Robinson competes and a trio of key featherweight battles are part of the lineup.

Main Event

RFA Welterweight Title Decision Fight

Gilbert Smith (10-3-0) vs. Chidi “Chidi Bang Bang” Njokuani (11-4-0-1NC)

Smith has won five of his past six fights since getting that UFC release, which came after a loss to Bubba McDaniel at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Njokuani has won four of six fights during his time in the RFA and he is the brother of UFC veteran Anthony Njokuani. Smith made his RFA debut back at RFA 20 in November 2014, defeating Bojan Velickovic by majority decision. Njokuani has plenty of experience competing against UFC veterans, as he has previously fought UFC vets Chris Heatherly, Alan Jouban and Brandon Thatch. Smith’s whole focus will be on getting the fight to the ground, but Njokuani knows how to use his range well and he will do that to secure a decision and the title.

Co-Main Event

RFA Featherweight Division Fight

Donald Sanchez (30-14-0) vs. “Tricky” Mark Dickman (9-2-0)

Sanchez will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the King Of The Cage promotion. Dickman is coming off of a loss to UFC veteran Justin Lawrence at RFA 17, the bout was for the vacant RFA Featherweight Title. Sanchez has won five of his last six fights and he is the current KOTC Featherweight Champion, defeating Warren Stewart to win the title. The only two losses that Dickman has suffered came in the RFA and both losses also came by way of decision. Sanchez has a massive experience edge when compared to Dickman, Sanchez is also more well-rounded a fight and he will get the decision to defeat Dickman.

RFA Featherweight Division Fight

Ricky “The Spazmanian Devil” Musgrave (13-4-0) vs. Alvin “Kid” Robinson (14-8-0)

Musgrave will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he is coming off of a pair of wins in the Bellator MMA promotion. Robinson is a veteran of UFC competition, he has also rotated wins and losses in his last seven MMA bouts. Robinson is far from the ground fighting ace he once was years ago, Musgrave will use his wrestling skills to ride out a decision win.

RFA Featherweight Division Fight

Prentice Ingram (7-4-0) vs. Josh “The Hellboy” Huber (14-7-0-1NC)

Ingram will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he has only won just one of three bouts heading into the RFA debut. Huber has won four of his last five fights heading into his RFA debut and he has previously fought UFC veteran Fabio Mello. Huber is on quite the roll right now and he will get Ingram to the ground and submit him in the first round to gain the victory.

RFA Lightweight Division Fight

Dominic Montoya (3-0-0) vs. Yomi Heredia (1-0-0)

Montoya will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he has spent his entire career in the No Mercy Extreme Fighting promotion. Heredia made his professional MMA debut in December 2014, defeating Santa Solero Jr. by first round TKO. These are two fighters who are still in the early stages of their careers, but it will be Montoya out wrestling Heredia to remain undefeated.

RFA Flyweight Division Fight

Joey Eisenbraun (3-1-0) vs. Kevin “Pocket Herc” Gray (3-1-0)

Eisenbraun will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he has yet to see any of his fights go to the judge’s scorecards. Gray will be returning to the RFA after a two year absence, last competing at RFA V in a losing effort to Matt Manzanares. Gray has looked very good in his time outside of the RFA and he will use his superior ground game to submit Eisenbraun to make a successful RFA return.
