There are a total of four MMA events taking place this coming week and taking the rare Thursday Night slot will be the World Series Of Fighting 18. The event will be headlined by a WSOF Bantamweight Title Fight as champion Marlon Moraes defends against Josh Hill. There are three other fights on the main card, which will spotlight some of the best up and coming talent in MMA.
Main Card
Main Event
WSOF Bantamweight Title Fight
Marlon Moraes (13-4-1) (Champion) vs. “Gentleman†Josh Hill (10-0-0)
Moraes will actually be making the first defense of his championship in this bout, as his last bout against Cody Bollinger was a catchweight bout. Hill has only competed once before under the WSOF banner, which was a win over Mike Adams at the WSOF Canada II last June. Moraes has already won six fights under the WSOF banner, with notable wins coming over UFC veterans Miguel Torres and Carson Beebe. Hill has already held championship gold as a pro, as he was the Aggression MMA Bantamweight Champion, he never lost that title. Moraes is a UFC level fighter and it is a shame that he is wasting away fighting second tier talent in the WSOF, Moraes out strikes Hill to keep his title via second round TKO.
Co-Main Event
WSOF Lightweight Division Fight
Shane “Shaolin†Campbell (10-2-0) vs. Derek “The Gargoyle†Boyle (13-6-0)
Campbell will be making his WSOF debut in this fight after a successful two fight run in the Maximum Fighting Championships. Boyle will be looking to avenge a previous defeat to Campbell, which came back at the Score Fighting Series IV in March 2012. Campbell has only suffered one defeat in the last three years, which came to UFC veteran Jesse Ronson. Boyle has competed against a pair of UFC veterans, which were TUF Champion Chad Laprise and Jason Saggo. This fight means more to the Canadian MMA scene that the WSOF as a whole, but I see Campbell and Boyle engaging in a slugfest that ends with Boyle getting the TKO to avenge his previous defeat.
WSOF Lightweight Division Fight
Mukai “The Afrikan Assassin†Maromo (8-4-0) vs. Jose “The Rockstar†Rodriguez (7-3-0)
Maromo will be returning to action after a year-plus layoff and he once challenged for the Maximum Fighting Championships Lightweight Title. Rodriguez will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he has fought fellow WSOF debutant Derek Boyle. Maromo starts off fast and he tires rather quickly, Rodriguez grinds out the win via a well-earned decision.
WSOF Featherweight Division Fight
“Mean†Hakeem Dawodu (3-0-0) vs. Tristan Johnson (9-5-0)
Dawodu has spent his entire professional MMA career thus far in the WSOF and he has only seen one of his fights go past the second round. Johnson has only won just one of his last three fights and he has previously fought former WSOF Featherweight Champion Rick Glenn. Dawodu is a fighter who has a huge amount of potential, but Johnson has a major experience edge and he will out wrestle Dawodu to get the decision.
