Saigon’s first Title defense announced
At the Super 8 Tournament, a dream was realized… no one can take away what Matt Saigon finally earned that night… 5 years of proving himself, 5 years of clawing his way to the top, and 5 years of proving everyone, including ECWA owner Mike Tartaglia, wrong!
Matt Saigon is finally the ECWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!
At the Super 8, it was a triple threat match to decide who would hold “Big Red”. Ricky Martinez defended against Saigon and Bobby Shields. It was a match of epic proportions. All 3 men took it to the next level battling all over the arena and in the crowd. Martinez was the first to be eliminated. And so it was a showdown… Saigon… Shields… two friends who were both screwed over by ECWA owner Mike Tartaglia and Ricky Martinez.
But a friendship can only go so far! Pummeling each other, Shields and Saigon risked it all in the quest to be called champion. Shields anger boiled over, leading many to wonder if this match would end the friendship between the two men. The fans willed both men to go even further… but in the end, it was Matt Saigon’s time.
Bobby Shields valiantly went for the kill with his trademark 450 Splash only to be met with a jumping Ace Crusher so Matt Saigon could gain the pin fall and become the ECWA Heavyweight Champion!
Shaking hands in respect for each other, we all knew this wasn’t over.
ECWA management felt the same. Matt Saigon needed an opponent for Spring Battle IV on Saturday April 18.… And they decided the first chance goes to aforementioned Bobby Shields. Ricky Martinez will receive his guaranteed championship rematch in June, ECWA officials say because he was eliminated first in the match so his match comes later.
So on Saturday April 18 as ECWA presents Spring Battle IV in Woodbury Heights, NJ it’s the NEW ECWA Heavyweight Champion the “Vietnam Phenom” Matt Saigon taking on his friend “Wrestling’s True Talent” Bobby Shields!
Two men, two friends once again battling over “Big Red”!
Can the RISE OF SAIGON continue?
