Best friends… now bitter enemies
ECWA has had it’s fair share of stories about friendships that turned bitter… brothers who betrayed each other. Perhaps one of the most perplexing cases, however, is taking shape as we speak.
Breaker Morant and Cory Kastle shared a lot of similarities… they both are long time indy wrestling veterans. They’ve traveled all over the east coast perfecting their craft… they’ve held gold in various companies. And because of this, they continuously saw other and formed a bond… a strong friendship if you will. That friendship has stood the test of time… until now.
Naturally knowing each other so well makes them a formidable tag team under normal circumstances. And they’ve successfully teamed many times over… that is until a recent string of events that has thrown this whole thing into a bitter rivalry.
Breaker and Kastle teamed a few months back in the annual ECWA K-Cup tag team tournament to crown new ECWA tag team champions. But thanks to some confusion or perhaps even a game of one-upmanship, they fell in just shy of becoming the new champions. All was forgiven between two proud men… or so it seemed.
Then just last month at ‘Spring Battle’ they teamed again to try to get revenge for their loss to the new then and still ECWA tag team champions the Extreme Rednecks. It was going better and better for Kastle and Morant and it seemed they were going to knock off the champions. But just as Morant was going in for the kill, Kastle’s demeanor changed… his stare went from trying to win gold to seemingly waiting for something. For what is unclear.
Just as Breaker tried to tag in Kastle to get the final blow, he walked away from his corner leaving a shocked Breaker Morant to do nothing but stare in disbelief. The Rednecks took advantage and retained their championships.
That wasn’t the end. Kastle returned to the ring and proceeded to beat down Morant repeatedly surely making a huge statement. Leaving his now former friend helpless and basically unconscious in the ring, Kastle walked away yelling he was now the ‘New Standard in ECWA’. His motives for the attack are still unclear as of this writing.
Was it jealously that slowly turned Kastle? Was it pride? Or is it simply a case of wrong place, wrong time for Breaker Morant?
One thing’s for certain… Breaker Morant wants revenge on Cory Kastle! He asked for and was granted a match on Saturday June 20, 2015 at Raising the Bar IV!
We’ll find out soon enough if Cory Kastle really is the ‘New Standard of ECWA’ or not… and he’ll have to go through a man who knows him better than he knows himself.
