Coming off of last week’s hugely successful Bellator MMA “Unfinished Business†card, Bellator MMA returns to action with another stellar card. The event will be headlined by a huge heavyweight division bout as Cheick Kongo faces Alexander Volkov. Also, former featherweight champion Pat Curran fights and David Rickels gets a hometown bout in the co-main event.
Main Card
Main Event
Bellator MMA Heavyweight Division Fight
Cheick Kongo (22-10-2) vs. Alexander “Drago†Volkov (24-5-0)
Kongo has won four of six during his time in Bellator MMA, but he is coming off of a loss to King Mo at Bellator 134. Volkov has won five of six fights since losing the heavyweight title, most notably defeating Mighty Mo at Bellator 116. Kongo has already challenged for the Bellator MMA Heavyweight Title once, losing to current champion Vitaly Minakov at Bellator 115. Volkov is a former Bellator MMA Heavyweight Champion, having lost the gold to Vitaly Minakov at Bellator 108. Volkov had problems with the wrestling of Tony Johnson in his last Bellator MMA appearance, Kongo will use some dirty boxing while holding Volkov against the cage wall to get a decision win.
Co-Main Event
Bellator MMA Lightweight Division Fight
John “The Natural†Alessio (35-17-0-1NC) vs. David “The Caveman†Rickels (16-3-0)
Alessio has won just one of his last five fights heading into this bout, with that lone win coming over Eric Wisely at Bellator 119. Rickels has won two of his last three fights under the Bellator MMA banner, last defeating Davi Ramos at Bellator 130. Alessio has had four separate runs in the UFC and he failed to earn a victory in either of those four runs. Rickels has previously challenged for the Bellator MMA Lightweight Title, losing to then champion Michael Chandler at Bellator 97. Alessio is a fighter who is long past his prime, Rickels dominates him with strikes for a quick TKO finish.
Bellator MMA Featherweight Division Fight
Pat “Paddy Mike†Curran (20-7-0) vs. Emmanuel “El Matador†Sanchez (10-1-0)
Curran is a former two time Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion, but he has only won just one of his last four fights. Sanchez is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA competition, last defeating Alejandro Villalobos at Bellator 135. Curran has slowed down tremendously in his last few fights, Sanchez doesn’t let him get out of first gear as he gets a decision victory.
Bellator MMA Middleweight Division Fight
Joe “Stitch ‘Em Up†Schilling (2-4-0) vs. Hisaki Kato (4-1-0)
Schilling may not have one of the best records as a professional MMA fighter, but he is one of the best professional kickboxers to come out of North America in a long time. Kato will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Heat MMA promotion. Kato will stand up the entire time with Schilling, which will be a huge mistake as Schilling gets the first round finish.
