georgiawrestlinghistorybanner-small1_zps4cea4843

From Brian Slack:

Here's the complete of the winners of the 2014 Georgia Wrestling History Awards as voted on by the GWH staff and the Georgia Wrestling Community.

Overall Wrestler: Shaun Tempers

AJ Steele was the first runner up.

Best Technician: Kyle Matthews and Fred Yehi (tie)

This was Kyle Matthews sixth year winning award, but Fred Yehi was able to loosen the iron grip that Matthews had on the award. Runner ups was a tie between Corey Hollis and Slim J.

Best Male Performer: AJ Steele

Simon Sermon, the 2013 year winner, was the first runner up.

Best Female Performer: Miss Rachael

Pandora, who was the first woman to win the award last year, was the first runner up.

This was a blow out win for Bill Behrens who received more votes than all the other nominees combined. Rick Michaels was the first runner up.

Best Tag Team or Stable: the Washington Bullets (Jon Williams & Trey Williams)

This was the third time that the Washington Bullets won this award. Just like with the Ted Allen Legends/Mentor award, the win was a blowout for the Washington Bullets. The first runner up was the Dream Team (Pandora & Josh Storm).

Most Improved Wrestler: Geter

BJ Hancock was the first runner up.

Charles William Anschutz pulled off what many would consider an upset. Shane Noles (Peachstate Wrestling Alliance) was the first runner up.

Rick Michaels (Peachstate Wrestling Alliance) and Bill Behrens & Todd Sexton (Anarchy Wrestling) tied for first runner ups.

This is the second year in a row that Fright Night won this award. The runner up was a tie between Universal Independent Wrestling's Bull Buchanan Retirement show and Peachstate Wrestling Alliance's Jeff Hardy Show.

MIKE POSEY – The Birmingham, AL native performed as a wrestler and referee initially in Alabama & Georgia, most notably for NWA Wildside. He joined TNA as a referee, and also wrestled in a feud with David Young as “Dropkick” Posey. He resigned from TNA to try-out for WWE and after several dark matches was the 1st referee to join WWE’s development promotion Deep South Wrestling, initially without a WWE contract. Soon he was signed. When the ECW brand was launched he joined the WWE roster as one of its refs, eventually becoming the brand’s Sr. official. In his time in WWE he was a ref in matches on all three WWE brands and appeared at two WrestleManias. Returning to wrestling in 2009, Mike Posey teamed with former WWE Referee, Wes Adams, as the Official Express and Corey Hollis as Alabama Attitude in ROH. Posey won numerous singles titles including RPW TV Title, NWA Ultimate Tag Team Title, APW North Georgia Title, Alabama Junior Heavyweight Title, NWA Tennessee Junior Heavyweight Champion, NWA Pro South All Out & Tag Team Champion, and more. Posey was ranked in the 2012 PWI 500 at 333 up from 438 in 2011 and 470 in 2010..   In 2013 PWI 500 ranked Mike Posey at 320 and Corey Hollis at 318.  In 2015 Mike Posey became P Dog.  Corey Hollis made it to the finals of the 2015 ECWA Super 8.  Both appeared for ROH in Atlanta and Nashville in 2015.  P Dog Mike Posey is a former Peachstate Wrestling No Limits Champion. On July 25 P Dog & CB Suave def Slim J & Fred Yehi to become Anarchy Tag Team Champions.   P Dog & the Get Along Gang and Corey Hollis are booked for ROH in Atlanta on Aug 29

Posey & Hollis faced Hot Like Lava (Cru Jones & Shawn Banks) at the TNA House Show in Mascon, GA at the Coliseum on Saturday 10-20-12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL6sdRt0W_c&feature=youtu.be

Peachstate Wrestling Alliance Report from Carrollton on July 18

From Larry Goodman:

The task at hand was building a challenger for Jimmy Rave’s first title defense on August 15. “P Dog” turned out to be that guy, and he was booked super strong. Be that as it may, I don’t think anyone in their right mind believes that P Dog will be taking the title from Rave next month, and there’s no obvious strong challenger other than Dean, who is out of the title picture for the time being.

(2)”P Dog” Mike Posey defeated Eli Daniels in 5:38. P Dog dominated Daniels in all facets of the game and was a real jerk about it. There was no water in the pool for Daniels’ top rope splash and P Dog pinned him with the Alabama Jam. It was the decisive win Posey needed in this spot.

Getz came out and asked P Dog if he wanted more gold – gold belts, gold records, gold chains and maybe some gold grillz. All he had to do was sign on the dotted line. P Dog said thanks but no thanks. “I don’t need no white boys in my business.”

 (5) P Dog won a 16 man Bunkhouse Battle Royal in 11:23 to earn a PWA Heritage title shot on August 15. Order of eliminations: Collins, Brit Johnson, BY, Donnie Primetime, Daniels, Sherrod, Joey Sparks, Iceberg (via Posey pulling the ropes down), Clint Matthews, Rinauro, C-Dawg, Rick Michaels, Romeo, Ace Haven and Stupid. Weapons included pizza pans, kendo sticks, a piece of PVC pipe, a spatula, a cane and a mop. The comedy high point was Rick smushing a frozen pizza into Rinauro’s face. A titanic struggle between Haven and Rinauro to stave off elimination concluded when Haven whacked Rinauro with a pizza pan. Amy Haven removed Romeo’s ankle weight (the better to keep him from being thrown over the top don’t you know) so Ace could toss him out. Romeo pulled Haven out. Posey pulled the ropes down to eliminate Stupid. Match was OK. The bar for gimmick matches was pretty high. It paled in comparison to the Survivor Games or the wild streetfight on May 16 show.

Anarchy Champion Jagged Edge came out with BJ Hancock & Lars Manderson.  Jagged had the bullrope he had used on Billy Buck with him and said Buck would likely not even show up at Hostile Environment, and that the Platinum Team for War Games would be Hancock, Manderson, Big F'N Deal & Jon Williams of the Bullets.  Bobby Moore & Stryknyn came out for the match that would determine the order of entry at War Games.   BJ Hancock & Lars Manderson with help from Jagged Edge def Bobby Moore & Stryknyn so Team Platinum will have the advantage in War Games on Aug 22.  Postmatch the three attacked Moore & Strynyn until Billy Buck and Jerry Palmer chase them away.  Buck ended up with the bullrope and told Jagged Edge there match would be a Texas Bullrope Match.  Palmer said that the War Games stipulations had been agreed to by Miss Rachael, Steve Platinum and Team Platinum.  If Team Platinum wins, Platinum owns Anarchy.  If Team Anarchy wins, Team Platinum must disband, and Anarchy remains as it is, and Jeff G Bailey gets Steve Platinum in the cage.  The Anarchy Team will be Stryknyn, Bobby Moore, Logan Creed, Shadow Jackson, plus Mikael Judas who will step up and compete twice that night.

Deep Southern Championship Wrestling was created in March of  2010 and started running shows once a month in Ellijay, Ga. We started out in a place known as Gilmer Golf and games. Our first show drew a crowd of 35 or 40 people. DSCW didn’t get discouraged though we kept giving good quality matches at a fair price and got our crowds up to 150 or more. We had to move to gyms and civic centers to support our fan base, drawing close to 600 on some of our big shows

Scenic City Invitational: Night One from Rossville, GA on August 7 by Larry Goodman

Empire Wrestling presents the first “The Scenic City Invitational”: emanating from the Empire Arena in the Chattanooga suburb of Rossville, Georgia. This is a two night, the first of its kind for this region, a 16 man tournament modeled on the Ted Petty Invitational.

The tournament got off to a fabulous start on night one featuring a match of the year candidate in Jimmy Rave vs. Anthony Henry, and a breakout match for Georgia wrestler Jason Collins, victorious over ROH star Caprice Coleman.

Attendance was 150. Definitely not the usual Empire crowd with a greater proportion of hardcore wrestling fans.

Introductory video - The tournament winner is to receive the Greg Hullender Trophy named for the highly respected wrestler/promoter known as Big Wood. The tournament is designed to be a blend of technical wrestling and brute force, national stars and hometown heroes.

Pre show photo op with the entire field of 16. Moose was late due to traffic and came in last in his street clothes, looking like the star of the show.

Ring announcer Scott Hensley announced a 50/50 drawing to benefit referee Graham Long whose daughter was born with Spina Bifida.

(1) Corey Hollis defeated Joey Lynch in 14:45. Two of a kind – short of stature, yet powerfully built and really technically sound. Crowd was all about local favorite Lynch and Hollis helped them along with his irritating tactics. Lynch almost went headfirst into the ringside support post on a tope. I don’t even want to think about it. A headbutt sent Lynch off the apron and Hollis was all over him. Back inside, Hollis kept cutting Lynch off. Crowd got behind Lynch, back with a kick variation of the GTS for a two count. Lynch took too miuch time going to the top. Hollis hit a back suplex off the top with Lynch taking a full rotation bump for the most memorable spot of the match. Lynch kicked out and the crowd chanted his name. They traded big near falls, Hollis got an ankle lock but Lynch made the ropes. Lynch got the deathlock on. Hollis tapped but referee Long didn’t see it. Hollis then poked Lynch in the eyes, and crushed him with the back elbow for the pin. Great way to start the show.

Crowd chanted "you tapped out" at Hollis.

(2) Ace Rockwell defeated Mark Vandy in 10:16. Vandy is lanky, mega-bearded bald guy out of Indiana who holds victories of Kevin Nash and Colt Cabana. Vandy had about as much chance of winning this tournament as Yujiro Tanahashi has of winning the G1. When Vandy went for the big boot, Rockwell put him in an airplane spin. Vandy blocked the Rockwell’s finisher it and connected with the big boot for a near fall. Vandy went back to the big boot and Rockwell countered with the Ace crusher. It was OK. No suspense here.

Vandy accepted Rockwell’s handshake after the match.

(3) Moose defeated KT Hamill in 12:16. The crowd as right on time with the Moose chant and Hamill was pissed about it. Frustration set in early for KT as he felt the power of the Moose. Hamill chop blocked Moose’s knee to get the big man on the mat, and worked the body part with a single leg crab and a dragon screw legwhip. At one point, Moose’s knee gave out as he zeroed in Hamill. Moose reversed a suplex attempt to spark a comeback, but Hamill dodged the spear. The big spot of the match saw Hamill try for a slingshot rana to the outside. Moose wouldn’t go down and powerbombed Hamill on the ring apron. Hamill barely beat the count. The end was near. Hamill missed a something or other off the top rope and got speared out of his boots. Good match. Moose did his thing. Hamill did a great job of getting the crowd to dislike him.

Moose went directly to the merch table and put on a Scenic City Invitational t-shirt.

(4) Kongo Kong defeated Tank in 9:15. A collision of 350+ pound monsters. Tank is way over in Empire and got the biggest entrance pop thus far. Neither man budged for a shoulder block. Tank looked a bit stunned. He clotheslined Kong over the top and they brawled on the outside. Tank took a shot in the support post. Back inside, Kong applied a nerve hold. The one he did from a standing position looked more like neck massage. Tank finally got Kong off his feet with a clothesline and choked him with his wrist tape. Tank’s headbutts did as much damage to himself as they did to Kong. Kong tried to slam Tank. That wasn’t happening. They awkwardly transitioned to a Tank superplex. Tank misfired and got leveled by a discus lariat, and Kong finished him with a top rope splash that looked tremendous. Kong has some holes in his game. No doubt that he moves well and does some impressive shit for such a huge guy.

Postmatch - Kong scared a woman in front row out of her wits and a “Thank you Tank”

chant.

Intermission with the Coleman, Gunner and Moose at their merchandise tables.

(5) Jason Collins upset Caprice Coleman in 16:36. They opened with matwork and swapping of hammerlocks – a nice way to establish that Collins could hang with the ROH star on a technical level. The action moved to the outside where Coleman did his baseball slide around the ringpost and unleashed a barrage of body blows. Collins had the springboard splash scouted and countered with a hotshot to take over. Collins ran his mouth as he dished well executed punishment. Collins was eventually penalized for excessive arrogance. Both down after a tornado kick by Coleman. Collins ducked ‘Coleman’s haymaker and got caught with a left. Coleman’s leaping huracanrana got a big reaction as did the springboard huracanrana. Collins answered with a half nelson suplex/superkick combo for a near fall. Coleman busted out the trio of northern lights suplexes. Dueling chants broke out. Collins evaded a flashy, flippy move by Coleman who appeared to take a bad bump on his neck. Collins immediately hit a cradle back suplex and pinned Coleman with his feet on the ropes. The most compelling match of the night for pure athleticism. Coleman had his work shoes on. Collins was fully up to the task. It didn’t have the story of Rave vs. Henry, but man oh man, did they every pull off some spots.

(6) Gunner Miller defeated Chip Day in 8:58. Miller is a huge local favorite stemming from his football career at UT Chattanooga. It doesn’t hurt one bit that he has the look and athletic tools of a major league prospect. Day surprised Miller with an all-out attack right at the opening bell. The action spilled to ringside. Day took the ring out of Miller’s sails with a sick, thudding kick to the chest. Miller rallied back with high impact moves that had Day suffering. The momentum again turned when Miller ate the turnbuckle on a missed spear. Day dominated with arsenal of strikes. Miller with an explosive comeback including a press slam and a flying shoulder block. Day went to the eyes to regain the advantage. Day was in shock when Miller kicked out of Day of the Dead (double knees off the top). Day flew from the top again and Miller speared him in midair for a fantastic finish. Good match. Miller looked much better here than he did last month at Empire’s “Crazy From the Heat”. Day doesn’t have bad matches period.

(7) In the match of the night, Jimmy Rave submitted Anthony Henry at 21:28. Henry must live in the gym. The physique on that guy. They opened with grappling. Henry was exasperating Rave with his mat skills. Rave opened up his bag of mind games garnering a “you’re a sissy” chant. Henry stayed focused. They did an elaborate, imaginative sequence of moves built around knuckle lock. Great stuff. Henry took over with a Mutalock and a bow and arrow. Rave kicked out of the Kryptonite Krunch. Henry kicked out of the Shining Wizard. Rave hit the STO on the ring frame – that move always gets a reaction and this one looked especially devastating. Henry barely beat the 10 count. Rave gave Henry a superplex that landed past midring. Rave bailed after taking some stiff chops and Henry uncorked a killer tope on him. Henry gave Rave an inverted DDT on the ring frame for bookend tease of a count out finish. Henry did a dazzling, spinning inverted Gori Special and picked Rave off the top rope with a huracanrana. Henry hit a picture perfect frogsplash but Rave kicked out. Rave was dead weight when went to pick him up. Rave rolled to the floor. The ref went to check on him. It was all a ruse to get Henry to lower his guard. Rave locked in the crossface. Rave almost made the ropes but Rave maneuvered back to ring center and Henry tapped. One my top ten list of for this year. Rave added to the extraordinary body of work he has compiled thus far during 2015. His performance was off the charts, but without Henry’s technical skills and athleticism, it’s not a great match. It was a prime example of telling a story in the ring. For interesting choices and making a match flow seamlessly, Rave is on the elite level.

Postmatch – a mad show of mutual respect between the competitors and a lengthy standing ovation. Henry appropriately yielded centerstage to Rave, who was on the verge of tears.as the crowd continued to shower him with appreciation for a masterful performance.

The 50/50 drawing was held with $194 raised for Graham Long.

(8) Gunner defeated “The Marathon Man” Chrisjen Hayme in 16:43. Marathon man ticked Gunner off and showed his sprinting abilities in the opening minutes. They did a running the ropes gag for more buffoonery from Hayme. The fun and games came to an end. Gunner did a 20 count stalling suplex. Hayme held on for dear life to avoid the PTSD powerbomb. Hayme ran Gunner into the post to get the upper hand. Sleazy offense ensued from Hayme with a pair of sick kicks for near falls. A shoulder block collision left both men down. Hayme escaped from another PTSD but Gunner planted him with a Rockbottom for a near fall. Hayme with a top rope double stomp to the back for two. Hayme went aerial again only to get spienbustered by Gunner. A “let’s go Gunner” chant erupted. Hayme ran Gunner’s head into a chair that he had wedged between the ropes earlier in the match. But Hayme crashed and burned on a 450 splash and Gunner ended his evening with the PTSD. Hayme’s chickenshit heel act was highly entertaining. The comedy was a nice change of pace from the rest of the show, and they weren’t going to top Rave/Henry for a serious match. The crowd got impatient with Gunner giving Hayme as much offense as he did. Maybe it was just me, but I never got the feeling they thought Hayme could actually win.

Match ups for night two:

Collins vs. Hollis

Rockwell vs. Gunner

Rave vs. Miller

Kong vs. Moose

The winners meet in a four-way elimination match to determine the winner of the tournament.

Scenic City Invitational: Night Two from Rossville on August 8

From Larry Goodman:

Night two of the Scenic City Invitational  was more incredible than the first.

What looked like a hell of show on paper did not disappoint. Has the North Georgia area ever witnessed a night of independent wrestling this good, let alone two in a row? Doubtful at best.

I am still trying to digest the roller coast ride of a main event that saw Jimmy Rave emerge as the winner of the inaugural Scenic City Invitational and the recipient of the Greg Hullender Trophy.

If his match with Anthony Henry on night one wasn't enough, Rave worked just about everyone in the building on night two and in so doing, set up a rematch with Gunner Miller that Empire fans will kill to see.

The event was a both a financial and an artistic success for promoters Scott Hensley and Ace Rockwell. The second night drew 275 people to the Empire Arena, people with a  passion for pro wrestling that were enthralled by what they were seeing. Aside from the heat (no AC), it was tough to find anything to complain about.

Before going any further, props to the referees. The officiating by Graham Long, Chris Wiggins, Brandon Bailey and Triston Michaels. Good officiating is always important but it is essential to maintain credibility in a tournament format.

Andrew Alexander (the booker of Empire Wrestling) and “Reverend” Dan Wilson (manager/commentator) paid tribute to the man the tournament trophy is named after, “Big Wood” Greg Hullender. And so it should be Nobody has done more for pro wrestling in the Chattanooga area than Woody.

Alexander announced that Empire would be running events every Saturday night starting September 12.

Wilson revealed that the Scenic City Invitational would be a recurring annual event.

Hensley announced a 50/50 drawing to benefit Hullender for his upcoming knee surgery.

(1) Second round match - Corey Hollis defeated Jason Collins in 8:45. They both cheated to win the first round. Collins was the overwhelming crowd favorite here. All kinds of negativity heaped on Hollis including a “Forest Gump” chant. Collins jumped out on top. A suplex into the buckles shifted the momentum in favor of Hollis. Collins did a slingshot front flip into a clothesline and followed with a second clothesline for a near fall, but Hollis continued to cut off his comebacks. Collins had Hollis pinned with a half nelson suplex, but Hollis had his foot under the ropes. Collins attempted the cradle suplex that he used to beat Caprice Coleman in the first round. Hollis blocked it, poked Collins in the eyes, and kicked him in the head for a repeat of his first round finisher.

Postmatch - Hollis smiled and paraded around the ring with the crowd hating on him.

(2) Non tournament match - Joey Lynch defeated Anthony Henry in 11:01. Lynch and Henry were brought back for a singles match based on their stellar performances in their opening round losses. Both are babyfaces, however the crowd clearly favored the Empire star Lynch. Early highlights included a corkscrew pescado by Lynch and Henry’s springboard sunset powerbomb. In a play off of Henry’s first round match, Lynch appeared to be concussed after taking a kick to head. Henry threw Lynch back into the ring and covered with Lynch grabbing the ropes at the last split second. Lynch came back with a standing sliced bread for a near fall. They went back and forth with pin attempts, then forearm shots until Lynch ducked and rolled Henry up. Strong performances turned in by both men. It made total sense for the Empire guy to go over.

The show of mutual respect after the match got a big pop.

(3) Second round match - Gunner defeated Ace Rockwell in 12:32. They told the story of two competitors that knew each other’s moves inside and out. Both starred for NWA Anarchy. As Phil Shatter, Gunner defeated then champion Rockwell to win the company’s heavyweight title. A slapfest morphed into a wild brawl that referee Graham Long got caught in the middle of. Rockwell came away smiling. Gunner did not. The sequence worked beautifully to establish the feel of a real fight. A dueling chant broke out with the crowd split right down the middle. The counter wrestling flowed. The back and forth strikes were stiff. Gunner rolled through in Rockwell’s flying body press and tried for the fallaway slam, but Rockwell fought it off. Rockwell kicked out of the PTSD powerbomb. Gunner went for a diving headbutt and Rockwell cut him off in midair with an Ace crusher, but Gunner kicked out. Both men spilled over the top rope on Rockwell’s lariat. Gunner reentered with a slingshot sunset flip right into the powerbomb for a killer finish. Best match of the second round and my favorite match of night two.

Postmatch - thunderous applause as Gunner and Rockwell shared a moment of triumph.

(4) Second round match – Kongo Kong defeated Moose in 10:37. They had a tough act to follow, and this match had a plodding quality by comparison. Moose sold his back after trying to pick up the 400 pounder for a body slam. Kong got near falls with a rolling senton and a powerslam, but missed a splash off the middle rope. They did a faster paced sequence that looked really ugly. Moose managed to get Kong up for Death Valley Driver but Kong kicked out. Kong reversed a powerbomb with a huracanrana for the spot of the match, and pinned Moose with a top rope splash. The collision of monsters was an intriguing idea, and the match had a few incredible moments, but it was not good. ROH is careful to avoid putting Moose in a position where his weaknesses and inexperience are exposed like they were here.

(5) Second round match - Jimmy Rave defeated Gunner Miller in 11:36. Massive Gunner chant at the start. Rave couldn’t cope with Miller’s shoulder blocks. Rave tried to lure the rookie into making a mistake and succeeded. Rave slowed things down with a cobra clutch. The crowd fired up. Miller powered out. Rave spit at Miller and paid a heavy price. Miller got Rave in position for an electric chair and dropped it into a german suplex for a near fall. Rave blocked Miller’s full scale spear, but Miller managed to connect with a shortened version. Rave rolled to the floor and laid motionless. Referee Chris Wiggins gave the X sign. Fans murmured that Rave had been in a car wreck earlier in the day (true) and wasn’t supposed to wrestle. Wrestlers and officials rushed to ringside. Rave sold like he didn’t know which end was up but wanted to continue. Out of nowhere, Rave sprung to feet, blasted Miller with a forearm and rolled him up.

Postmatch - Outrage and an instant rematch chant. Rave grinned and offered to shake hands. Miller slapped Rave’s hand and stormed to the back. Miller must have had a delayed reaction because he stormed back out with fire in his eyes and tournament officials trying to hold him back. All hell broke loose. Rave bolted into the crowd and said he was sorry. Miller was on his tail but officials got in between them. The rematch chant got louder and louder and at this point, the people wanted Rave’s head on a stick.

This was brilliant. I wrote that Rave was playing possum when he pulled the same stunt against Henry the night before. Not true. Rave had been knocked out legit. Then he had the car wreck and posted about it on Facebook. Surely this was the real deal. Not. Only a handful of people were in on the work. The officials and wrestlers that rushed to ringside were not clued in.

(6) Mr. Sports Entertainment & Mark Vandy & Tank & Corey Cox defeated Empire Junior Heavyweight Champion Ryan Vega & Matt Fortune & Chip Day & Andrew S. Kirk (with Steve Dave) in 9:39. This match was a vehicle to advance the Empire angle involving the insanely over Tank and the heel faction White Rose (Day, Vega and Hollis). Day and Vega hit Tank with simultaneous superkicks. Tank kicked out and destroyed them with an assist from Mr. Sports Entertainment. Tank then pinned Day with the Chokebreaker. Entertaining for what it was, especially for the Empire fans.

Postmatch – Tank administered choke slams for Dave and Fortune. The winning team tried to put Tank on their shoulders but he was a might too heavy so they settled for raising his hand.

(7) Jimmy Rave defeated Gunner and Corey Hollis and Kongo Kong in an elimination match to win the tournament in 37:17. This was wrestled with lucha style tag rules – only two men in at a time, a legal man could exit via a tag or going to the floor. Early on, Hollis and Gunner jumped off the apron and made Rave deal with Kong. The crowd chanted for Kong, and he got his chance to shine. Rave and Hollis worked together to wear down Gunner by assaulting his knee. Mission accomplished. Gunner rolled the floor. Rave and Hollis didn’t see Kong entering from behind. Kong cleaned house on them. A limping Gunner got back into the match. Rave superplexed Gunner and was immediately splashed by Kong. Kong chokeslammed Hollis and tried to end his life with a moonsault. It missed and Kong was pinned after a Harley Race knee from Gunner at 20:41. Rave and Hollis continued to work together against Gunner. Gunner had Rave in a Boston crab when Hollis poked Gunner in the eyes and kicked him in the head to score the pinfall at 26:42. Rave ended up motionless on the floor again and was almost counted out. Rave had the crossface locked in when Vega hit the ring. Rave dispatched with Vega and hit the apron STO on Hollis, and Hollis was almost counted out. The fans chanted for Hollis, the same guy they hated with a passion throughout the tournament. Rave got the crossface on again. Day hit the ring to help Hollis and was clotheslined out by Rave. For the finish, Hollis missed a diving headbutt and Rave won it with Dusk ‘Til Dawn. The match had good wrestling but was more about emotional turmoil. Gunner was the lone babyface, but the crowd ended up rooting for everyone in the ring at one time or another. The elimination of Gunner was a stunner and momentarily sucked the life out of the building. Fans rightfully expected it to come down to Rave and Gunner. Then you had the hated Rave overcoming the odds of all three White Rose members coming at him.

Postmatch – chants for and against Rave ensued. Hollis shook Rave’s hand and paid tribute to him. Hollis said pro wrestling is a selfish business, but Rave helped him because he loves pro wrestling. Hollis credited Rave with making him a better wrestler and a better man. The crowd chanted “thank you, Jimmy”. Rave took the mic and called out everyone from the back. I was shocked that Miller came out there but there he was. Rave said he was a small piece of a larger puzzle. He asked the crowd to applaud the other wrestlers, gave thanks to the production crew and lastly, thanked the fans for attending.

From Larry Goodman:

Ace Rockwell and Scott Hensley have already received inquiries from 40 wrestlers regarding the 2016 tournament. Dates TBA.

Rave was indeed involved in a car accident prior to the Saturday show, and he was  knocked out legit during the match with Henry on Friday night. The knockout in the match with Miller on Saturday was art imitating life.

Rick Michaels was booked for the second night to help out in the back to keep the show running smoothly.

Murder One caught the tail end of the show after working for Ben Thrasher's UEW inTrenton.

Other wrestling notable in attendance over the course of the two nights included Empire owner Drew Mullinax, wrestler Priscilla Kelly, videographer David Pierce, Patrick Alvarez and Mike B. from the "Fans of Wrestling" podcast, and the man the tournament trophy was named for “Big Wood’ Greg Hullender.

Former PWA referee Jeremy Black was also in attendance. Black is battling Addison's disease.

The event was taped by Allan Barrie (aka Al Getz) and Matt Griffin (aka JC North aka "Mr. Delicious") for a DVD release. It was a three camera shoot with two handhelds. Getz and Dan Wilson will add commentary in post-production.

Speaking of North, he has launched an acting career now part of the improv comedy group at Whole World Theater in Atlanta.

Dylan Hales rode a Greyhound all the way from Charleston, SC to see the tournament.
