BELLATOR 141 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 8/27/2015 4:24 PM

Friday Night will be a busy night for MMA action because the only two big MMA events of the weekend are happening on Friday Night. The biggest event is Bellator 141, which will be headlined by the promotional debut of UFC veteran Melvin Guillard. Also, Saad Awad faces Patricky Freire and Justin Wren returns to MMA after his charitable work in the Congo.

Main Card

Main Event

Bellator MMA Lightweight Division Fight

Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (32-14-2-2NC) vs. Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (12-4-0)

Guillard will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight after a terrible run in the World Series Of Fighting, winning one of two fights in the promotion. Girtz will be returning to action after a year away from the sport, but he has won four of six in Bellator MMA. Guillard has two runs in the UFC that ran a combined six years and he was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter I. Girtz has already fought a few UFC veterans during his career, most notably Drew Dober and Alvin Robinson. Guillard is an amazing striker, but Girtz has an amazing ground game and he will eventually drag Guillard to the ground and tap him in the first.

Co-Main Event

Bellator MMA Lightweight Division Fight

Saad “Assassin” Awad (18-6-0) vs. Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-6-0)

Awad will enter the fight on a three fight winning streak, including one victory where he finished an opponent with elbows while on his back. Freire is competing for the first time since losing in the finals of the last Bellator MMA Lightweight Tournament to Marcin Held. Awad is also the last man to defeat Will Brooks, who is the current Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion. Freire will be fighting for the first time in nearly a year and he is the brother of current Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion Patricio Freire. This fight should be nothing short of a slugfest from bell to bell, but it will be Awad finishing Freire with strikes in the first.

Bellator MMA Heavyweight Division Fight

Josh “The Hammer” Burns (8-8-0) vs. Justin Wren (10-2-0)

Burns is currently winless under the Bellator MMA banner, last dropping a fight to Bobby Lashley at Bellator 123. Wren will be returning to action after a five year absence and he was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter X. Wren’s story about helping the underprivileged in the Congo is a true inspiration, but he has been away from MMA for a long time now, Burns gets the win in a close decision.

Bellator MMA Heavyweight Division Fight

Raphael “The Silencer” Butler (9-1-1) vs. Lorenzo “The Dream Killer” Hood (9-2-0)

Butler has won just one of his last three under the Bellator MMA banner, with that lone win coming over Josh Diekman at Bellator 134. Hood will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and none of his professional MMA bouts have gone past the first round. This fight is going to be quick and brutal, Hood gets a violent knockout finish in the opening round here.
