This coming Saturday Night may feature the biggest MMA show of all time on free TV as we are getting Bellator MMA Dynamite I. The event will not only feature a host of bouts from both Bellator MMA and Glory Kickboxing, but huge title fights as well. Also, Bellator MMA will crown a new top contender for the light heavyweight title in a four man tournament.
(Note: I will only be previewing the MMA portion of the card since I do not have a lot of knowledge when it comes to the world of kickboxing.)
Main Card
Main Event
Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Title Fight
Liam McGeary (10-0-0) (Champion) vs. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy†Tito Ortiz (18-11-1)
McGeary will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Emmanuel Newton at Bellator 134. Ortiz is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion who is undefeated in Bellator MMA, last defeating Stephan Bonnar at Bellator 131. McGeary’s title win came via decision, which was the first time in his five year MMA career that one of his fights went to the judge’s scorecards. Ortiz has already defeated a champion in Bellator MMA, as he defeated then middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko in a light heavyweight bout at Bellator 120. Ortiz’s greatest strength is taking the fight to the ground, which is where McGeary wants it to go and he will catch Ortiz with a submission in the third round to keep the title.
Co-Main Event
Bellator MMA Lightweight Division Fight
Josh “The Punk†Thomson (20-8-0-1NC) vs. Mike “The Greek Assassin†Bronzoulis (18-8-1)
Thomson will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he is a former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion. Bronzoulis will be returning to Bellator MMA after a two year absence and he was a finalist on the lone season of Bellator MMA “Fight Master.†Thomson is coming off of a four fight run in the UFC, where he challenged for the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC On Fox X. Bronzoulis is the current Legacy FC Lightweight Champion and he enters the fight on a three fight winning streak. Bronzoulis is going to want to turn the fight into a striking exchange, but Thomson will ground him with his wrestling to earn a decision.
Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Tournament Opening Round Fight
“Mr. Wonderful†Phil Davis (13-3-0-1NC) vs. “The Hardcore Kid†Emanuel Newton (25-8-1)
Davis will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight after a long run in the UFC where he earned a record of 9-3-0-1NC. Newton will be competing for the first time since losing his light heavyweight title to Liam McGeary at Bellator 134. Newton has one of the oddest striking games in MMA right now, but Davis will neutralize that by grounding him to earn a decision.
Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Tournament Opening Round Fight
Linton “The Swarm†Vassell (15-4-0-1NC) vs. Muhammed “King Mo†Lawal (15-4-0-1NC)
Vassell has won four of five fights under the Bellator MMA banner, most notably defeating UFC veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at Bellator 134. Lawal will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he last defeated UFC veteran Cheick Kongo in a heavyweight bout at Bellator 134. Vassell will be a threat when Lawal takes the bout to the ground, but Lawal is good enough to fend off the submission attempts to earn a decision win.
