INVICTA FC 16 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 3/10/2016 8:47 PM

There is a reason why Invicta FC is the greatest all female MMA promotion in the world and MMA fans will get another chance to see why on Friday Night. The event will be headlined by a pair of title bouts in both the atomweight and flyweight divisions respectively. Also, UFC veterans Angela Hill, Jessamyn Duke and Roxanne Modaferri will be stepping into the cage.

Main Event

Invicta FC Atomweight Title Fight

Ayaka Hamasaki (12-1-0) (Champion) vs. Amber “The Bully” Brown (6-1-0)

Hamasaki will be making the first defense of her championship, which she won by defeating Herica Tiburico at Invicta FC 13. Brown is currently undefeated in Invicta FC competition, which includes a pair of first round submission wins. Hamasaki has only suffered one loss thus far as a pro and that loss came to UFC veteran Claudia Gadelha. Brown will already be fighting for the second time this year, which is the first time in three years she has fought more than one time per year. Brown has a great submission game and Hamasaki will use her wrestling game to nullify that and earn a decision win to keep her title.

Co-Main Event

Invicta FC Interim Flyweight Title Decision Fight

Jennifer Maia (12-4-1) vs. Vanessa Porto (18-6-0)

Maia will be returning to Invicta FC after being away for nearly two years, but she returns to the promotion on a three fight winning streak. Porto has previously challenged for the Invicta FC Flyweight Title, losing to Barb Honchak at Invicta FC V. Prior to returning to Invicta FC, Maia had spent some time competing in both Immortal FC and Samurai FC. Porto has already defeated Maia once before, which happened nearly six years ago at a Kumite MMA Combate event. These are two women who excel with the ground game, but Porto’s ground game is a little better and she out wrestles Maia to earn a decision and the title.

Invicta FC Strawweight Division Fight

Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink (4-2-0) vs. Angela “Overkill” Hill (3-2-0)

Eggink will be returning to action for the first time since giving birth and she has previously challenged for the Invicta FC Strawweight Title. Hill is a UFC veteran who is undefeated in Invicta FC, having defeated Alida Gray at Invicta FC 15. Hill is a late replacement and that will affect her in this bout, Eggink grounds and submits her in the second round.

Invicta FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Irene Aldana (5-2-0) vs. Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke (3-3-0-1NC)

Aldana will be competing for the first time since losing a bantamweight title bout to Tonya Evinger at Invicta FC 13. Duke will be competing for the first time since her UFC release, which came after a loss to Elizabeth Phillips at UFC On Fox 16. Duke has good range and never uses it, Aldana gets inside with her striking and finishes Duke in the second.

Invicta FC Flyweight Division Fight

DeAnna “The Argentine Assassin” Bennett (8-1-0) vs. Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi (18-12-0)

Bennett will be competing for the first time since losing a title bout to strawweight champion Livia Renata Souza. Modafferi is a UFC veteran who has won three of four in Invicta FC, most notably defeating tara LaRosa at Invicta FC VIII. Modafferi may have improved her striking game, but Bennett is a better rounded fighter and she mixes it up more to get the decision.

Invicta FC Atomweight Division Fight

Jinh Yu Frey (4-1-0) vs. Herica Tiburcio (9-3-0)

Frey has won two of three under the Invicta FC banner and she will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak. Tiburcio will be competing for the first time since losing her atomweight belt to Ayaka Hamasaki at Invicta FC 13. Tiburcio has an amazing ground game and she catches Frey with a submission late in the third round.

Invicta FC Flyweight Division Fight

Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio (8-6-0) vs. Andrea “KGB” Lee (4-1-0)

D’Alelio has only won just one of her last four fights and she has also won just one bout in the last three years. Lee has found some great success outside of Invicta FC, winning the Legacy FC Women’s Flyweight Championship. D’Alelio will be looking to ground Lee, but Lee will use better striking to keep her at bay and earn the decision.

Invicta FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Aspen Ladd (2-0-0) vs. “Killer” Kelly McGill (2-0-0)

Ladd is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and none of her bouts have gone past the second round. McGill is also undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and she will be returning to action after a year-plus absence. Ladd is better at taking control of fights when compared to McGill, Ladd pounds her out with strikes late in the first.

Invicta FC Strawweight Division Fight

Sarah “Switch Kick” Click (0-0-0) vs. Ashley “Doll Face” Greenway (0-0-0)

Click will be making her professional MMA debut in this fight and she did earn five victories as an amateur fighter. Greenway will also be making her professional MMA debut in this fight and she did face UFC veteran Tecia Torres as an amateur. Greenway has a huge amateur MMA experience advantage over Click an dshe uses that to grind out a decision win.
