WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING 29 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 3/11/2016 7:27 PM

This big weekend of MMA action will conclude this Saturday Night with the World Series Of Fighting 29 card from Colorado. The event will be headlined by a lightweight title bout as Justin Gaethje defends against Brian Foster. Also, UFC veteran Josh Copeland takes on Mike Hayes and Strikeforce veteran Louis Taylor is in action.

Main Card

Main Event

WSOF Lightweight Title Fight

Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje (15-0-0) (Champion) vs. Brian Foster (25-8-0)

Gaethje will be making the fifth defense of his championship, last defending it against Luis Palomino at the WSOF 23. Foster earned a title shot after winning a tournament, where he defeated Joao Zeferino in the finals. Gaethje is the only lightweight champion thus far in WSOF history, the promotion has been around now for more than three years. Foster is a UFC veteran and he was actually cut from the promotion despite being on a two fight winning streak. Gaethje will try to lure Foster into a slugfest and he will do that to finish him with strikes in the second round.

Co-Main Event

WSOF Heavyweight Division Fight

Josh “The Cuddly Bear” Copeland (11-3-0) vs. Mike “300” Hayes (19-10-2)

Copeland will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he is also a two fight veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championships. Hayes has only won just one of his last eight fights and he will also be making his WSOF debut in this fight. Copeland is coming off of a loss to current Bellator MMA Heavyweight Champion Vitaly Minakov at a Eurasia Fight Nights event. Hayes has previously competed for the Cage Warriors Heavyweight Title, losing to DJ Linderman at Cage Warriors 47. Copeland will want to use his wrestling to ground the striker in Hayes, Copeland gets a decision win here.

WSOF Middleweight Division Fight

Cory “The One” Devela (16-6-0) vs. Louis “Hand Gunz” Taylor (11-3-0)

Devela will be making his WSOF debut on a four fight winning streak, which includes a win over UFC veteran Nick Ring. Taylor will also be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he will be returning to action after a year-plus layoff. These are two fighters who could make a good run at middleweight, but taylor grinds out a close decision over Devela.

WSOF Welterweight Division Fight

Josh Cavan (11-6-0) vs. Kris Hocum (7-4-0)

Cavan will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he does so after winning two of his last three fights. Hocum has rotated wins and losses in his last five fights, plus this fight will be marking his promotional debut. These are two fighters who are well versed in the ground game, but it will be Hocum catches Cavan with a first round submission.

Preliminary Card

Tyler Vogel over Ian Heinisch

Josh Huber over Clay Wimer

Brandon Royal over Danny Mainus
