LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 52 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 3/25/2016 4:28 PM

There is not much in the way of MMA action this weekend and the biggest event of them all this weekend is Legacy Fighting Championships 52. The event will see the crowning of an interim flyweight champion as Matt Schnell faces Klayton Mai. Also, UFC veteran Sean Soriano and several other top MMA prospects will be stepping into the cage.

Main Card

Main Event

Legacy FC Interim Flyweight Title Decision Fight

Matt “Danger” Schnell (8-2-0) vs. Klayton “The Python” Mai (8-1-0)

Schnell will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with two of those wins coming under the Legacy FC banner. Mai is a late replacement in this fight, as current flyweight champion Damacio Page was forced to withdraw after an injury. Schnell has only seen two of his ten bouts go to the judge’s scorecards and he has not gone to a decision in nearly two years. Mai actually holds a win over Schnell, which happened back at Legacy FC 32 and the win came by submission. Mai has a good chance to win his second in a row over Schnell, but Schnell has improved greatly sinc ethe first fight and he taps Mai in the first to win the belt.

Co-Main Event

Legacy FC Featherweight Division Fight

Sean Soriano (9-3-0) vs. Thomas Webb (9-3-0)

Soriano has been undefeated since his UFC release, defeating Josh Quayhagen by knockout at Legacy FC 48. Webb is currently winless under the Legacy FC banner, dropping a fight to Daniel Pineda at Legacy FC 39. Soriano fought three times under the UFC banner, but was unable to get a win in any of those fights. Webb has also won two of his last three bouts and he has only competed twice in the last two years time. Soriano has reinvented himself since his UFC release and he finishes Webb with strikes in the opening round.

Legacy FC Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Aaron Davis (7-6-0) vs. Ryan “Superman” Spann (8-2-0)

Davis is currently undefeated in Legacy FC debut, having defeated Edgar Verdin by decision at Legacy FC 48. Spann will be competing for the first time since losing a middleweight title bout to Leonardo Leite at Legacy FC 48. These are two fighters who are going to want to get the fight to the ground, which is where Spann taps out Davis in the second.

Legacy FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Trent Meaux (3-1-0) vs. Cody “Wolverine” Williams (8-6-0)

Meaux will be looking to build on the momentum of his first Legacy FC win, which came over Joel Scott at Legacy FC 48. Williams will be returning to Legacy FC after a three years absence and he once challenged for the Hero FC Bantamweight Title. Williams is primed for a big run in Legacy FC and he grinds out a decision over Meaux to start that run.

Legacy FC Middleweight Division Fight

Brendan Allen (2-0-0) vs. Trevin Giles (4-0-0)

Allen will be making his Legacy Fc debut in this fight and both of his past wins were first round finishes. Giles will be returning to Legacy FC after a year-plus absence and none of his pro fights went to the judge’s scorecards. Allen will look to use his striking to get the win, but Giles will counter and use his ground game to tap Allen in the first.

Legacy FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Irwin “The Beast” Rivera (4-1-0) vs. Jose Ceja (3-1-0)

Rivera is currently winless in Legacy FC, having dropped a fight to Steven Peterson by decision at Legacy FC 46. Ceja has only competed once in the last two years, which was a win over Gerzan Chaw at Fury Fighting IX. Ceja will be looking to ground Rivera, but Rivera catches him with strikes to finish him early in the first.

Preliminary Card

JC Pennington over Matt Mooney
