CES MMA 34 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 3/30/2016 7:16 PM

Although the majority of the world will have their eyes set on the wrestling world this weekend with WWE Wrestlemania 32, there is still some MMA action to check out. CES MMA 34 is the first of those shows and it will be headlined by a welterweight title shot as Chris Curtis defends against UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell. Also, Kenny Foster faces Calvin Kattar and six other top MMA prospects will be stepping into the cage.

Main Card

Main Event

CES MMA Welterweight Title Fight

“The Action Man” Chris Curtis (13-4-0) (Champion) vs. Nah-Shon “The Rock-N-Rolla” Burrell (12-6-0-1NC)

Curtis will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Gil De Freitas at CES MMA 32. Burrell will be making his CES MMA debut in this fight and he has only won three fights since his UFC release nearly three years ago. Curtis already earned a victory over Burrell, which happened over six years ago at a Xtreme Caged Combat event. Burrell only won a single fight during his UFC tenure, which came over Yuri Villefort by decision at UFC 157. Burrell’s only shot at winning is to catch Curtis with strikes, but Curtis grounds and pounds Burrell on route to a first round finish.

Co-Main Event

CES MMA Featherweight Division Fight

Kenny “The Tooth Fairy” Foster (11-10-0) vs. Calvin “The Boston Finisher” Kattar (14-2-0)

Foster has only won two of his last ten fights heading into his CES MMA debut and he has not won a fight in nearly two years. Kattar will be returning to action after a three year absence and this fight will also be his CES MMA debut. Foster did compete in a Bellator MMA Featherweight Tournament, where he made it to the semi-finals. Kattar did previously hold a championship before his long absence from competition, as he was an American Steel Cagefighting Featherweight Champion. Foster is not a threat to anybody who he steps into the cage with, Kattar returns from his absence to finish Foster with strikes in the first.

CES MMA Bantamweight Division Fight

Johnny “Cupcakes” Campbell (11-7-0-1NC) vs. Matthew “SMG” Lozano (5-3-0)

Campbell will be making his CES MMA debut in this fight and he is a former Cage Fighting FC Flyweight Champion. Lozano will be making his CES MMA debut in this fight as well, plus he has competed in Belllator MMA and the WSOF. Lozano will be looking to ground his opponent, but Campbell will use his superior striking game to finish him with strikes in the second.

CES MMA Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Kevin “The North Woods Nightmare” Haley (4-3-0) vs. Steve Skrzat (8-7-0)

Haley is currently winless under the CES MMA banner, dropping a fight to Eric Wisely by submission at CES MMA 27. Skrzat will be returning to the CES MMA promotion for the first time in five years, winning three fights in between appearances. Skrzat has a truly underrated striking game and he uses that striking game to finish Haley with strikes in the first.

CES MMA Lightweight Division Fight

Leon “Dynamite” Davis (7-3-0-1NC) vs. Lorawnt-T “Smash” Nelson (7-4-0)

Davis has won four of five fights under the CES MMA banner, last defeating Andres Jeudi by decision at CES MMA 30. Nelson has only won just one of his last four fights and this fight will be marking his promotional debut. Davis is known for his workman like ground game, David grounds out and grinds a decision win over Nelson.
