WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING 30 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 4/1/2016 4:44 PM

The biggest MMA event of the weekend is easily the World Series Of Fighting 30, which features a pair of title bouts on the card. The title bouts that are headlining the card will see David Branch defend the middleweight title against Clifford Starks and Jon Fitch faces Joao Zeferino for the vacant welterweight title. Also, Jake Heun faces Vinny Magalhaes and two other top MMA prospects will be stepping into the cage looking for the win.

Main Card

Main Event

WSOF Middleweight Title Fight

David Branch (17-3-0) (Champion) vs. Clifford “Big Cat” Starks (13-2-0)

Branch will be making the second defense of his championship, last defending it against Yushin Okami at the WSOF 15. Starks is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, most notably defeating Jake Heun and Clifford Starks. Branch is a double champion in the promotion as he is the current WSOF Light Heavyweight Champion as well. Starks had a three fight run in the UFC a few years back, his lone win in the promotion came over Dustin Jacoby at UFC 137. Branch has seemingly been on another planet since becoming a double champion, he submits Starks in the third to keep the championship.

Co-Main Event

WSOF Welterweight Title Decision Fight

Jon Fitch (27-7-1-1NC) vs. Joao “The Brazilian Samurai” Zeferino (20-7-0)

Fitch had previously challenged for the title before, losing to then champion Rousimar Palhares by submission at WSOF 16. Zeferino made it to the finals of the WSOF Lightweight Tournament, losing to Brian Foster in the finals fight. Fitch has won three of his last four in WSOF competition, with two of those wins coming over UFC veterans Dennis Hallman and Yushin Okami. Zeferino is a UFC veteran like Fitch, but Zeferino was unable to score a victory during his time in the promotion. Fitch has a suffocating ground game and he uses that game to grind out a decision and win the championship.

WSOF Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Jake “The Honey Bear” Heun (9-4-0) vs. Vinny “Pezao” Magalhaes (13-7-0-1NC)

Heun has won three of four fights under the WSOF banner, last defeating Clinton Williams by decision at the WSOF 26. Magalhaes is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, defeating Matt Hamill by submission at the WSOF 24. Heun will want to get the fight to the ground, but Magalhaes is a submission wizard and he submits Heun in the first.

WSOF Middleweight Division Fight

Abu “Gladiator” Azaitar (11-1-1-1NC) vs. Danny “Dee1” Davis Jr. (11-10-1)

Azaitar will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he is a former German MMA Championships Middleweight Champion. Davis Jr. will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in just over a full year. Azaitar is being brought in as a future title challenger and he storms past Davis Jr. by finishing him with strikes in the first.

Abubakar Nurmagomedov over Matthew Frincu

Clinton Williams over Rex Harris

Matt Church over Steve Kozola

Jason Pacheco over Carlos Garcia
