The UFC is holding a rare Sunday Afternoon show this weekend with a huge amount of heavyweight fighters on the card. UFC Fight Night 86 will be headlined by a heavyweight division fight as Ben Rothwell faces Junior Dos Santos. Also, Gabriel Gonzaga faces Derrick Lewis and a pair of top female strawweights step into the octagon.
Main Card
Main Event
UFC Heavyweight Division Fight
“Big” Ben Rothwell (36-9-0) vs. Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos (17-4-0)
Rothwell will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in over three years. Dos Santos has rotated wins and losses in his last six UUFC appearances, with his last fight being a loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC On Fox 17. Rothwell made MMA history in his last bout as he became the first competitor to ever submit Josh Barnett in an MMA fight. Dos Santos has only suffered three losses in the UFC, with two of those three losses coming in title fights. Dos Santos has started to block way to many punches with his face in recent years, Rothwell eventually gets him against the cage wall and finishes him with strikes from dirty boxing in the third.
Co-Main Event
UFC Heavyweight Division Fight
Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga (17-10-0) vs. Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis (14-4-0-1NC)
Gonzaga has only won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Kontstantin Erokhin at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale. Lewis will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and none of his UFC fights went to the judge’s scorecards. Gonzaga has not putting a winning streak together in three years, his last winning streak saw him defeat Dave Herman and Shawn Jordan. This will be the fourth time that Lewis has competed on a UFC Fight Night card, he has only won just one bout on prior UFC Fight Night cards. Gonzaga will have problems getting Lewis to the ground, Lewis then pounds on Gonzaga with strikes on route to a first round finish.
UFC Heavyweight Division Fight
Curtis “Razor” Blaydes (5-0-0) vs. Francis Ngannou (6-1-0)
Blaydes will be making his UFC debut in this fight and none of his five previous wins went to the judge’s scorecards. Ngannou is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Luis Henrique Barbosa De Oliveira by knockout at UFC On Fox 17. Ngannou has trouble with his gas tank, Blaydes grounds and pounds him late in the third to get the finish.
UFC Heavyweight Division Fight
Timothy Johnson (9-2-0) vs. Marcin “Tybur” Tybura (13-1-0)
Johnson will be looking to rebound from his first UFC defeat, which came to Jared Rosholt by decision at UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. St. Preux. Tybura will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a former M-1 Challenge Heavyweight Champion. Johnson has a good striking game, but Tybura is on a whole new level and he grounds Johnson before nailing him with strikes on route to a first round finish.
UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
Jan Blachowicz (18-5-0) vs. Igor “The Duke” Pokrajac (28-12-0-1NC)
Blachowicz has only won just one of three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Ilir Latifi at UFC Fight Night: Story vs. Nelson. Pokrajac will be starting his second run in the UFC, he did win four of twelve during his initial UFC appearances. Pokrajac has a good striking game, but Blachowicz grounds him and grinds out a decision win in this one.
UFC Women’s Strawweight Division Fight
Maryna “Iron Woman” Moroz (6-1-0) vs. Cristina “Barbie” Stanciu (5-0-0)
Moroz will be looking to rebound from her first loss as a professional, which came to Valerie Letourneau at UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Oliveira. Stanciu will be making her UFC debut in this fight and she is a longtime veteran on the Romanian Xtreme Fighting promotion. These are two women who are going to want to get the fight to the ground, which is where Moroz barely outworks Stanciu to get a razor close decision.
