BELLATOR 158 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 7/15/2016 10:21 PM

Despite not airing live in the United States, Bellator 158 will still be a card worth checking out for MMA fans. The event will be headlined by a huge welterweight division bout between Paul Daley and Douglas Lima. Also, Matt Mitrione faces Oli Thompson and Michael Page gets the biggest test of his MMA career.

Main Card

Main Event

Bellator MMA Welterweight Division Fight

Paul “Semtex” Daley (38-13-2) vs. Douglas “The Phenom” Lima (26-6-0)

Daley is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA competition and this will be his second main event fight in the promotion. Lima is a former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion and he will be returning after a one year absence. Daley will be competing in the United Kingdom for the first time in two years and four of his last five wins came via KO/TKO. Lima has not competed since losing the welterweight title to Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 140 last year. Lima has a great striking game and so does Daley, Daley has just a bit more precision and he gets the close decision win here.

Co-Main Event

Bellator MMA Heavyweight Division Fight

Matt “Meathead” Mitrione (10-5-0) vs. Oli “The Spartan” Thompson (17-8-0)

Mitrione is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA competition, having defeated Carl Seumanutafa at Bellator 157. Thompson will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he will be doing so on a five fight winning streak. Mitrione has spent the majority of his career in the UFC, where nine of his victories as a pro came from. Thompson won a grand total of five fights last year, with notable wins coming over Ikuhisa Minowa and Chris Barnett. Thompson has a lot of power in his punches, but Mitrione has better movement with his strikes and that gets him a first round TKO finish.

Bellator MMA Welterweight Division Fight

Michael “Venom” Page (10-0-0) vs. Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (21-17-0)

Page has won a total of five fights in Bellator MMA, which includes a win over UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell. Santos will be looking to rebound from his first loss in Bellator MMA, which came to Saad Awad at Bellator 154. Santos has the experience to keep things interesting for a little while, but Page has the best striking in Bellator MMA right now and he finishes Santos with strikes in the first.

Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Francis “Limitless” Carmont (24-11-0) vs. Lukasz Klinger (7-2-0)

Carmont will be competing for the first time since losing in the Bellator 142 Light Heavyweight Tournament Finals to Phil Davis. Klinger is a late replacement fighter in this bout and none of his pro bouts have gone to the judge’s scorecards. Carmont has a boring, but good wrestling game, which he uses to grind out a decision win.

Bellator MMA Featherweight Division Fight

Mike “Gip” Cutting (6-5-0) vs. James “The Strabanimal” Gallagher (3-0-0)

Cutting will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he has rotated wins or losses in his last eight fights. Gallagher will also be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and none of his previous fights went past the first round. This fight was put together as a showcase fight for Gallagher, Gallagher finishes Cutting with strikes in the first.
