UFC FIGHT NIGHT 92 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 8/5/2016 6:32 PM

The UFC is the leading MMA organization around the world for many good reasons, with one of the better ones being the young talent they have on the roster. That is evident by the main event of UFC Fight Night 92, which will see Yair Rodriguez take on Alex Caceres in a featherweight division clash. Also, Dennis Bermudez faces Rony Jason and Chris Camozzi looks to keep the best run of his UFC career on track.

Main Card

Main Event

UFC Featherweight Division Fight

Yair “Panther” Rodriguez (8-1-0) vs. Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres (12-8-0-1NC)

Rodriguez is currently undefeated under the UFC banner and he was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter: Latin America I. Caceres has been undefeated since moving up to featherweight, defeating both Masio Fullen and Cole Miller. Rodriguez will be competing in his first ever UFC main event, he has already won four bouts in the promotion. Caceres will also be competing in his first UFC main event, he has been with the UFC for over five years now. Caceres has the skills to keep things interesting for a little while, but Rodriguez has a striking game that is second to none, Rodriguez finishes Caceres with strikes in the second round.

Co-Main Event

UFC Featherweight Division Fight

Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (15-5-0) vs. Rony Jason (14-5-0-1NC)

Bermudez has only won just one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Tatsuya Kawajiri at UFC Fight Night: Cerrone vs. Oliveira. Jason has only won just one of his last four in the UFC and he is returning after a one year suspension for a failed drug test. Bermudez once had a seven fight winning streak in the UFC, a streak that had lasted a total of two-plus years. Jason has not put a winning streak together in three years and he has not earned a victory in over two years time. Jason is one of those fighters who lacks defense when it comes to his opponents strikes, Bermudez finishes him with strikes in the first.

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Chris Camozzi (24-10-0) vs. Thales Leites (25-6-0)

Camozzi has won three of four in his second UFC run, with a notable win coming over Joe Riggs at UFC Fight Night: Cerrone vs. Oliveira. Leites will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not earned a victory in well over a year. Leites has a greatly improved striking game, but Camozzi will utilize his wrestling game to grind out a decision win.

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Zak Cummings (19-4-0) vs. Santiago “Gente Boa” Ponzinibbio (22-3-0)

Cummings has won six of his last seven fights under the UFC banner and he has not suffered a defeat in well over two years. Ponzinibbio has won four of his last five in the UFC and only one of those fights went to the judge’s scorecards. Cummings best shot at winning is to get the fight to the ground, but Ponzinibbio varies his striking to notch a decision win.

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Joseph Gigliotti (7-0-0) vs. Trevor “Hot Sauce” Smith (13-6-0)

Gigliotti will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Rage In The Cage promotion. Smith has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a win over Dan Miller at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale. Gigliotti and Smith are both great at the ground game, but experience will play a factor and Smith gets a close decision win.

UFC Women’s Strawweight Division Fight

“The Iron Woman” Maryna Moroz (7-1-0) vs. Danielle “Dynamite” Taylor (7-1-0)

Moroz has won two of three fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Joanne Calderwood at UFC Fight Night: Gonzaga vs. Cro Cop II. Taylor will be making her UFC debut in this fight and she is the current King Of The Cage Women’s Strawweight Champion. Taylor is worthy enough to be in the UFC, but Moroz pressures her constantly with strikes and the takedown to get a decision win.

Preliminary Card

Court McGee over Dominique Steele

Viktor Pesta over Marcin Tybura

Jason Novelli over David Teymur

Teruto Ishihara over Horacio Gutierrez

Cub Swanson over Tatsuya Kawajiri

Chase Sherman over Justin Ledet
