First entrant announced for the ECWA Super 8 on April 29
ECWA has been around for almost 50 years now… half a century of top notch wrestling put on by some of the world’s best wrestlers. A company that lasts that long has to keep innovating for the future… and innovate it did back in 1997 when former ECWA owner Jim Kettner invented the Super 8 Tournament. Originally, it was to crown an ECWA TV Championship, a now defunct championship. But the buzz behind the performers’ showing created massive buzz in the indy circuit, especially picking up PWI Magazine’s interest and coverage. And so it grew into a phenomenon! Wrestlers from all across the country begged and fought for the chance to be among the chosen eight. A good showing, and more importantly a win, in the tournament almost guarantees national coverage. Most of the past competitors went on to HUGE things in the wrestling industry whether it was in WWE, WCW, ROH, or even Japan.

-International Superstar Low Ki

And that’s literally just barely a list of the amazing names that all wrestling fans know and love that have competed under the ECWA banner at the Super 8 Tournament.
With that in mind, this is year 21 of the famous single elimination tournament! ECWA management wanted to make a huge splash with their first entrant choice. The search didn’t go very far before they found exactly the kind of athlete and wrestler that embodies what the Super 8 stands for.

THE FIRST ENTRANT IN THE 2017 ECWA SUPER 8 TOURNAMENT IS LIO RUSH!
Rush graduated out of the MCW Bone Breakers wrestling school and immediately made a name for himself. He’s already wrestled for so many notable companies in his young 3 year career such as MCW, CZW, Evolve, and Lucha Libre Elite, but most notably is signed to ROH. In fact, he won the ROH Top Prospect Tournament in 2016. His tournament experience doesn’t end there… as he competed in two different MCW Shamrock Cups in 2015 and 2016, winning the 2016 Cup! That has to make him an early odds on favorite to fight his way to the finals of the Super 8 and win the biggest tournament in independent wrestling!
Rush’s new unique dark persona has helped him become vicious, cold, and calculating adding even more edge to his wrestling prowess. What kind of wrestler is he? Rush can literally wrestle any style asked of him by his opponent… technical, lucha libre, go blow for blow with his power, and fly around the ring with the best of them. But it’s his speed and high flying ability that has gained him a HUGE fan base up and down the East Coast already!
Needless to say this is HUGE early news for upcoming tournament in April!
