I attended the BTW show at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI on 8/4.
Ric Flair did a promo to start the show and had a line of fans waiting for his meet & greet right up until belltime. It was great to see the Nature Boy do a classic promo in my hometown! I can't believe the turn of events since this appearance as he looked to be in good spirits.
It was announced at the start of the show that the Steiner Brothers ran into travel issues and wouldn't be on until the main event. Scott got on the mic at the start of the match against the Spirit Squad and said "apparently you can't take a gun through the airport" and that they had come from jail. Not sure what the real story actually was, but Rick had no gear on for the match except for wrestling boots, which he may have borrowed from another wrestler. I haven't seen Rick wrestle in years, so it could be that he wrestles in street clothes now.
Tommy Dreamer was supposed to have faced Sabu in an Extreme Rules match. The Sandman, previously unannounced, ended up teaming with Sabu against Brandon Webb & Don Vega. No reason was given for Dreamer not being there. Gillberg was also advertised, but did not appear.
The best match from a technical standpoint was Bobby Fish vs. Chris Dickinson.
Tony Atlas wrestled and took pictures in the ring at intermission.
Maria Manic took on Alisha Edwards in the BTW Divas match.
I estimate there were around 1,500 fans in attendance.
It was an entertaining night out and I always enjoy the summer stadium shows.
