The first show back after a major show, for me anyway, has to set the tone for all the shows headed towards the next big show. What will be the sizzle or the sexy for the shows going forward since Corey Hollis is gone from SF when he lost at Shindig? Who will be the next big bad heel to drive the crowd wild or will JBE or the Approved step up their antics even more?
I estimate the crowd at the Walton County Boys and Girls Club to be 200.
Rick Richards is your ring announcer, Adam Vance is on video commentary and your referees are Donnie Howell and David Weakley.
Richards brings out SF's owner (or governor if this was the NBA) David Manders. He makes a couple of announcements. Today, to the date, is the 6th year anniversary of the very first SF show.
Josh Powers vs. Will Kaution
Powers looks like a modern-day Boris Zhukov but without the USSR gimmick. Kaution is definitely over with the crowd here. Kaution is using his quickness to keep away from Powers until Powers catches him for a power slam. Kaution wins with a springboard stunner in about 6 minutes. A decent show starter to get the blood going and the voices warmed up. C+/B-.
JBE (Brian Kane, Tetchi Makuji, and Damien Bennett w/ Dr. Brock) vs. Xander Ramon and GBC1 (Josh Wolverton and Tyler Rivera)
Dr. Brock comes out to a chorus of "Nerd" chants and proceeds to insult the crowd and introduce his team... for a long, long time. It took like 5 minutes. The faces storm the ring and drive out JBE. Ramon and Wolverton lock arms and Rivera uses them as a springboard to dive on JBE. After the bell rings, JBE takes over and works over Rivera. Tyler makes the hot tag to Ramon, and he clears out Tetchi and Bennett. Brock gets up on the ring to try and distract Ramon's submission attempt of Bennett. GBC1 pull him off and tease dumping chips over Dr. Brock. Tetchi and Kane rush in from either side, but GBC1 dodges out of the way and then Ramon dives on top of Tetchi and Kane. GBC1 hit their finisher on Bennett at 9:33 for the win. Tetchi wasn't happy with Bennett. Kane and Dr. Brock had to play peacemakers. B-.
Adrian Hawkins with the Approved (Bobby Moore and Kenji Brea) vs. Billy Buck
The "Adriana" chants are much louder than the "Nerd" chants for Dr. Brock. Hawkins is wearing his gold suit jacket and pants with a black dress shirt and white tie. Moore is dressed out, and Brea is in civvies. Buck is by himself as the Approved are lurking ringside. Buck and Donnie are ready for the match to start, but Hawkins is delaying things by not disrobing. Buck has Hawkins jacket and teases throwing it into the crowd but settles for dropping it to the canvas and rubbing his boot all over it. Hawkins attacks over that. Buck turns things around, and Hawkins bails out of the ring. The Approved tease all 3 of them getting into the ring at once and it distracts Buck so Hawkins can attack. Buck turns it around again and Brea and Moore both try and interfere. Hawkins gets tossed out of the ring, and Buck dives on all 3 of them. Back in the ring, Buck is calling for the Buckshot, Brea enters the ring with a chair, but Donnie grabs it and gets the chair out of the ring. While Donnie does that, Moore levels buck with a clothesline. Hawkins covers, but Donnie was still dealing with Brea, so Buck was able to kick out. Buck hits the Buckshot and goes for the cover, but the Approved storm the ring and cause the DQ. Time: 6:33.
Hawkins grabs Buck's hat and goes to stomp on it, but Josey Quinn's music plays, and he makes his way to the ring. Brea goes to block him, Quinn heads butts him. In the ring now, Quinn takes out Moore and goes for Hawkins, but Hawkins bails and runs to the back. Quinn hands Buck his hat back, and the crowd cheers wildly. With the before and after match action stretched out the time to about 12 minutes. No one was expecting Quinn to be here. B+
Todd Sexton with Kelly Sexton promo. They bring out a belt and say that the Phase One Trophy is discontinued and at Ultimate Battleground on July 20th, the winner will be the new Southern Fried Classics Champion. Todd brings out the new SF champion, Jacob Ashworth. He gets a round of applause as he makes his way to the ring. Todd hands Jacob the mic and Jacob thanks the fans for their support. Todd announces the number one contender: Stryk Nyn. The crowd gives Stryk love as well. Stryk is looking forward to taking the title from Stryk. Jacob responds back. Todd brings up some comments from Dr. Brock had made about either Jacob or Stryk being the newest member of JBE. This brings out more words from both men (Jacob at one point, was a member of JBE). They are glowering at each other when AC Mack comes out and interrupts. He makes his intentions known that he wants the new championship and then has some words for both Jacob and Stryk. David Ali comes out next. Ali grabs the mic from AC, and he has some words for everyone. Stryk wants to team with Jacob to face Mack and Ali tonight then kick Jacob's ass at the next show. Jacob agrees to the match and Todd makes it official.
Stryknyn and Jacob Ashworth vs. AC Mack and David Ali
Mack and Ali storm the ring but Stryk and J soon send them out of the ring. Jacob is taking the heat on his leg for several minutes. Hope spot, when Mack and Ali go for a double suplex and Jacob, faceplants them both and tags in Stryk. Dr. Brock makes his way to the ring and wants to talk to Jacob. Jacob tells him to leave, and Stryk sees Dr. Brock which distracts Sryk enough for Stryk to get shoved into Jacob and then pinned at 9:45. B+. Post-match, Styk goes face to face with Jacob, and then they start slugging away at each other. The face lockerroom empties out to separate the 2 men. Dr. Brock leaves, looking smug. The faces eventually get Stryk out of the ring.
Intermission. July 20th, Ultimate Battleground
Women's steel cage match: Crystal Rose vs. Brooklyn Creed. Must win by pinfall or submission.
Brooklyn gets a standing O from the crowd. As she approaches the door to the cage, Rose kicks it into her face. Crystal's gouging at Brook's forehead with a sharp object. Crystal gets Brooklyn into the ring, and the match officially starts. Crystals' trying to get blood from Brook. She did, but it's up in the hairline. Brooklyn pumps up and starts to return the favor to Crystal, using the cage as a weapon. Crystal looks to be bleeding, and she is. Brooklyn pins Crystal at 5:24. B-. The timing of this match was about as perfect as it could be.
Men's steel cage match: Mikal Judas vs. Logan Creed. The only way to win is to escape the ring or both feet to touch the ground outside the ring.
Slobberknocker time! Judas comes out with no facial makeup and sporting a beard, which is a significant change in appearance for him. He's getting some applause from the crowd. The Approved make an appearance and want Judas in their group and hand him a shirt, Judas rips it up and tosses it away to the crowd's delight. Logan makes his way to the ring, he looks like he slimmed down a bit (He's lost at least 15 pounds). They glare at each other a bit with the cage between them, and Logan grabs a chair from under the ring and brings it into the ring with him. Logan tosses the chair at Judas who catches it but then gets speared by Creed. Creed has Judas between the ropes and cage and does several splashes onto Judas. Judas hip-toss' Creed into the cage. Judas has the chair, but he eats another spear when he turns towards Creed. Judas is able to recover and starts delivering shots to Creed with the chair. Creed takes a shot to the head with the chair with very little protection. Judas lands the Crucifix. David has the door open for Judas, but Judas tells him to shut and lock the door "If he dies, he dies!" Creed plants Judas with Scorched Earth onto the chair and makes his way to the door. He gets out onto the steps and changes his mind and goes back into the cage. Creed grabs the chair and delivers a shot to Judas' head. Judas is slow to get up, and Creed nails him again to the head and then multiple body shots with the chair. Logan lands a 3rd shot to the head and then starts to climb the turnbuckles. He sees Judas stirring and goes back down and smacks Judas again. Creed again begins to climb up, but Judas climbs up after him. They fight on the top rope before Creed grabs Judas's head and throws it down to the mat, almost bulldog like. Judas is able to get a kick to the face of Creed, and now both men are down. Both men sit up and trade several punches. It's a war of attrition now. Judas makes his way up the turnbuckles, and Logan grabs at his leg and eventually low blows Judas. Both men are down again. The Approved return to the ringside area. Both refs are at the door trying to block the Approved from entering. Logan is climbing the cage while Judas is trying to go out the door. Hawkins slams the door into Judas' head and Creed drops to the floor. Creed wins at 16:36. A-.
The Approved are in the ring now and they have Judas surrounded. Judas is up and sees them and starts to attack. The numbers game catches up and the Approved start doing damage to Judas. Brea and Moore hold up Judas for Hawkins's double knees to the face. Moore then delivers his discus elbow and the Approved climb the turnbuckles and preen for the crowd. They go back on the attack. The Approved leave the cage. Judas slowly makes his way to his feet and glares at the Approved. He gives a guttural yell and makes his way out of the ring towards the Approved with the Approved making a hasty retreat backstage.
I really liked this cage match. Judas might not be on the side of the angels, but the SF crowd will cheer for anyone who can knock off the Approved. Imagine what would happen if Judas and Creed teamed up for a series of matches against the Approved.
The returning Josey Quinn pleasantly shocked the crowd, and while JBE suffered a loss and look to be on different pages as a team, GBC1 will have their hands full trying to take the tag titles away from them. Overall, I would give the show a solid B, very, very little to find fault with.

Last night it was announced that Marko Stunt would be the 16th and final entrant into the 2019 Scenic City Invitational tournament.
He joins a variety of styles, sizes, and levels of experience in this year's field that also includes CZW Hall of Famers Matt Tremont and B-Boy, Evolve stars Anthony Henry and JD Drake, Independent standouts Tony Deppen and Daniel Makabe, along with regional veterans Slim J, Billy Buck, and your 2018 Scenic City Invitational winner Joey Lynch. There will also be a nice representation of budding regional stars like AC Mack, O'Shay Edwards(who has now moved and joined the ROH Dojo), Kevin Ku, Brett Ison, Nick Iggy, and hometown hero Jaden Newman.
Chikara founder Mike Quackenbush will also be joining us for the weekend!
