REPORT: MARIO BAUTISTA REPLACES RANDY COSTA AT UFC 259

By David Tees on 2/18/2021 5:28 PM

Trevin Jones needed a new opponent for UFC 259 after the withdrawal of Randy Costa and now he has one as MMA Junkie reports that Mario Bautista has accepted the short notice opportunity.

Jones (12-6-0-1NC) is winless thus far under the UFC banner, having fought Timur Valiev to a no contest at UFC On ESPN 15. Jones hasn’t won a fight in almost two years, with that last win coming over Takafumi Otsuka at Deep 89 Impact. Jones has fought 19 times as a professional MMA fighter and 11 of those encounters went the distance.

Bautista (8-1-0) has won two of three in the UFC, with those wins coming over Jin Soo Son and Miles Johns. Bautista is competing for the first time in over a year, with his last bout happening at UFC 247 in February of 2020. Bautista has suffered a single loss in his professional MMA career and that came to Cory Sandhagen at UFC Fight Night 143.

UFC 259 takes place on Saturday, March 6 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
