Lewis Tan portrays MMA fighter Cole Young in the upcoming film Mortal Kombat, which is set to be released on HBO Max and in theaters on April 16.
There is a scene in the film’s trailer that shows Young leaning against the cage for an upcoming fight in the same manner that Masvidal did before his historical win over Ben Askren. That is no coincidence, because Tan says his character in Young is partly based on Masvidal.
“That’s what Jorge Masvidal did before he knocked out Ben Askren in [five] seconds and set the whole MMA community on fire,” Tan said to Entertainment Weekly (via MMA Fighting).
Masvidal would react to that sentiment on Twitter:
