By David Tees on 2/24/2021 2:33 PM

The UFC Women’s Flyweight Title will be defended at UFC 261 as Valentina Shevchenko defends the gold against #1 Jessica Andrade.

UFC President Dana White revealed the news earlier today to broadcast partner ESPN.

Shevchenko (20-3-0) is making the fifth defense of her championship, last defending it against Jennifer Maia at UFC 255. Shevchenko won the championship by defeating former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231. Shevchenko hasn’t been defeated in over three years and that last loss came to Amanda Nunes at UFC 215.

Andrade (21-8-0) is undefeated since moving up to flyweight, having defeated Katlyn Chookagian by first round knockout at UFC Fight Night 180. Andrade is a former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion, defeating Rose Namajunas to win the gold at UFC 237. Andrade has also competed in every UFC women’s weight class other than featherweight.

UFC 261 takes place on Saturday, April 24 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
