A bantamweight division attraction has been added to the May 1 UFC card according to Todo Sobre MMA as Felipe Colares faces Journey Newson.
Colares (9-2-0) has won just one of three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Domingo Pilarte at UFC On ESPN 4. Colares is competing for the first time in over a year, with his last bout happening at UFC Fight Night 166 in January of 2020. Colares has seen his last four fights go the distance and it has been almost five years since the fighter got a finish.
Newson (9-3-0-1NC) is winless thus far in UFC competition, dropping bouts to Ricardo Ramos and Randy Costa, while fighting the aforementioned Pilarte to a no contest. Newson hasn’t won a fight in almost two years, with that last win coming over Soslan Abanokov in May of 2019. Newson has competed 13 times as a pro MMA fighter and four of them went the distance.
UFC Fight Night takes place on Saturday, May 1 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
