A lightweight division attraction has been added to the May 1 UFC card according to Mike Heck of MMA Fighting as Gabriel Benitez faces Jonathan Pearce.
Benitez (22-8-0) has won just one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Justin Jaynes at UFC On ESPN 19. Benitez competed on the UFC Ultimate Fighter Latin America Season 1, losing to Leonardo Morales in the semi-finals of the reality show. Benitez has picked up 10 of 22 wins by way of submission, with another eight coming by KO/TKO.
Pearce (10-4-0) has won just one of two thus far in the UFC, with his lone win coming over Kai Kamaka III at UFC On ESPN 18. Pearce competed on Dana White’s Contender Series Season 3, Episode 3, defeating Jacob Rosales by third round TKO. Pearce has also competed twice before in Bellator, defeating Omar Johnson and Damir Ferhatbegovic.
UFC Fight Night: Reyes vs. Prochazka is set for Saturday, May 1 from a location to be announced with Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
