Kay Hansen has suffered an undisclosed injury and is off UFC Fight Night 188 according to C Contreras Legaspi, replacing her against Cheyanne Buys is Montserrat Ruiz.
Buys (5-1-0) is making her UFC debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a four fight winning streak. Buys competed on Dana White’s Contender Series Season 4, Episode 3, defeating Hilarie Rose by unanimous decision. Buys has competed six times as a professional MMA fighter and five of those encounters went the distance.
Ruiz (9-1-0) is also making her UFC debut in this encounter, plus she hasn’t competed since July of 2020. Ruiz won just one of two when competing in Invicta FC, with that lone win coming over Janaisa Morandin at Invicta FC 41. Ruiz has suffered a single loss as a pro MMA fighter and that came to UFC veteran Danielle Taylor at Invicta FC 33.
UFC Fight Night 188 takes place on Saturday, June 20 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Derek Brunson and Kevin Holland headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on ESPN.
