REPORT: JUNIOR DOS SANTOS APPEALING DEFEAT AT UFC 256

By David Tees on 3/18/2021 7:33 AM

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos suffered a second round TKO loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC 256.

The free agent fighter has now filed an appeal with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) according to MMA Fighting, with the appeal stating that illegal elbow strikes to the back of Dos Santos’ head and a non-call by the referee led to the fight ending sequence.

Ana Guedes, who is representing Dos Santos in the appeal, states that “we have not and do not allege that the referee did not see the foul; rather, he saw the blow to the back of Junior’s head, but as a result of his misinterpretation of the rule, he wrongly failed to call it a foul, and he wrongly awarded a victory to the offending contestant, Cyril Gane.”

Guedes also has photos of Dos Santos taken a few days after the event showing bruising to the back of the head and the neck region.

There is no word at this time as to when the appeal will be heard and ruled on by the NAC.
