UFC 284 takes place this Saturday Night, with UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev defending the gold against UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski in the main event.
Dana White doesn’t just expect the event to due well, but he expects it to break pay-per-view records in both Australia and New Zealand.
“I don’t think it’s ever happened. The number one and number two pound-for-pound… It’s a monster fight. Just the gate alone out of there is gonna be an MSG-type gate. The pre-buys for pay-per-view… it’s beating all the fights of its type,” White told the media (transcript via Milan Ordonez of Bloody Elbow). “It’s probably gonna break the record for pay-per-view in Australia and New Zealand. The UFC, our record, which was Conor and somebody. But it’s looking like it’s gonna break that record. It’s a monster fight.”
Other notable fights on the card include Yair Rodriguez versus Josh Emmett for the vacant UFC Interim Featherweight Title, Jimmy Crute versus Alonzo Menifield and Tyson Pedro versus Modestas Bukauskas.
