Former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya will rematch current UFC Middleweight Champion Alex Pereira for the gold at UFC 287.
Adesanya has been on the UFC roster for over five years now, but he doesn’t expect to be competing anymore when the next five years come to pass.
“I’ve been in the UFC five years, right? If I’m being honest, I’m not gonna be here in five years,” Adesanya told reporters backstage at UFC 284 (transcript via Farah Hannon & Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “I have other things to do in life.”
The former middleweight champion has amassed a 12-2-0 record thus far in the UFC, with an overall record of 23-2-0 as a professional MMA fighter.
While Adesanya doesn’t expect to be fighting in five years, one thing he does expect to to leave the sport in top form.
“I love this sh*t and I’m f*cking great at it but I never attach myself to this and I’m gonna leave on top. So yeah, that’s the best way I feel like you should leave. But again, I’ve been here five years in the UFC, (snaps fingers) it went like that. We’ll see how long I’m here for but I don’t think it’s gonna be five years,” says Adesanya.
