REPORT: NSAC SUSPENDS CARLOS MOTA 2 YEARS FOR FAILED DRUG TEST

By David Tees on 2/16/2023 2:19 PM

It is going to be awhile before Carlos Mota competes in the Octagon again because MMA Junkie is reporting that the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has suspended the fighter two years for a failed drug test.

The fighter tested positive for meldonium, which is a metabolic modulator that is banned by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The fighter competed on the October 29 UFC card, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Cody Durden. Mota’s failed drug test came from a sample provided during an in-competition test stemming from that bout.

Since the suspension is retroactive to the date of the drug test failure, Mota will be able to return to the UFC on October 29 of 2025. There has been no statement yet from Mota or his representatives on the failed drug test.

UPDATE: MMA Fighting is now reporting that the UFC has released Mota, ending his one fight tenure with the promotion.
