Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones suffered a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came via DQ for illegal elbow strikes against Matt Hamill at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in December of 2009.
UFC President Dana White says he has tried many times over the years to get Jones’ loss to Hamill overturned.
“That fight should have been stopped, it should have been over, and Jones should be 27-0,” White said on The Jim Rome Show (transcript via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “I fought hard to get that one taken off his record but I haven’t been able to get it done. It’s horrible. It’s a referee that I said a million times should not even be in the octagon [refereeing]. But what are you going to do?”
Jones is back in action this weekend at UFC 285, fighting Ciryl Gane in the main event for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Title.
White says that if Jones wins on Saturday Night, it would make him the number one pound for pound fighter in the UFC.
“It would have to be Jon Jones [as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter],” White said. “I can tell you this, Jon Jones is an absolute freak of nature. He has been since the day that he walked into this company. All the questions will be answered on Saturday night.”
